I have Borland C++ Builder 5 which is like almost the best thing you can use but I had to buy it. If you can get the money for it, it's is well worth it.

Honestly, I wouldn't know... The best advice I could give to you would be to go to download.com and search for it on there. They have just about everything. If a bunch of stuff that costs money pops-up then change the liscence to free only. I hope that helps some.

From my experience, the best way to learn programming languages is to open up a plain-jane text editor and get to typing.
Then just compile through the terminal.

What OS are you on? I'd recommend you use Linux to program in, they have better (and free) environments that can aid you in making programs. Compiling would be through g++, or Borland on Windows.

First of all, use Linux ^_^

Download open source softwares and start trying things with the codes. Remember to read ALOT of codes from the masters. ^^

And using Windows you're going to have hell doing that. Windows isn't going to help you learn how to program, it's going to cost you out the ass for a decent development program, I'd say use a text editor, but just getting into it you'll want something more advanced and not as overwhelming. If you want to game, don't use Linux, if you want to develop, don't use Windows. Those are the two general weaknesses of each system.

Do what you will, but don't say you weren't warned.

Besides all linux OS's allow you to dual boot so i suggest you do that because to do c++ it will be easier with linux.

Ok yes i use windows but i agree with myr on this.

If he wants to use Windows stop bothering him and let him use it. As Scott mentioned the Blodshed Comiler is great for Windows/ Boreland is good too, but costly.

C++ is pretty hard to learn,i started off learning Visual Basic :) Once you get good at that you will find C++ easier.Good luck learning it though :)
