I seem to be having an issue with preventing Guests from viewing my Forum. Under Security, I have Allow guests to view the board checked as "NO". Do I also have to change it individually in the section settings or should the setting above in The Security area do it alone? Thank You. ~TCR |

Seems to be set OK - I cannot see the board when I view it... If you see guests appearing to view threads remember that it could be a member who had a link to a specific thread or area but had not logged in - Members can also show as guests prior to logging in and after logging out |

I can't see it when I log out either, but it is showing more than one ip, and all with similar ip's from the same server when I do an IP search. I can see them inside the topic and when I view the active users list it even showed a few as posting, yet nothing is posted. Also They are not members because I checked the IP's. ~TCR Look at this guys? 67.218.116.163 Guest Viewing Board One minute ago 216.129.119.11 Guest Viewing Board 4 minutes ago 216.129.119.12 Guest Viewing Board 4 minutes ago 67.218.116.165 Guest Viewing Board 5 minutes ago 216.129.119.40 Guest Viewing Board 5 minutes ago 216.129.119.42 Guest Viewing Board 7 minutes ago 67.218.116.166 Guest Viewing Board 12 minutes ago Keep in mind that this is hours after Guest viewing has been disabled in the Security section of The Admin CP. I ran IP checks on all of them and they all come back as from Layer42.Net, Inc. In Santa Clara, Ca. Just weird considering that My Board has pretty much had very low traffic since last summer. On a side note, I do know that I had a Google NBA Trojan in my Events folder of my Nod32 Anti Virus that came when I logged into my Board after a few weeks. I heard about some Google issues here, and I also have noticed how Google goes into certain forums and actually posts ads as if they are a user inside a topic. I dunno. Until I get some help with this I am gonna just turn my board offline. ~TCR Edited by True Conservative Republic, May 5 2010, 10:59 PM.

Having checked a few of those they appear to be search engine bots - they appear to relate to cuil.com Note that they are all viewing the board which means that they are just viewing your index page. That means they will see whatever guest can see ie they are not reading threads, topics etc see http://cuil.com PS For example if I were to go to your forum url I would show up as a guest and would be showing as viewing the board which would only mean that I had navigated to your url and was seeing the page asking me to sign on or register |

They could get the url's of individual topics in countless ways - If a member for example included a link in a blog, referred to a link on facebook etc that could be picked up. It doesn't necessarily mean though that they are actualy viewing the content of the thread. Sometimes a member here will include a link to a topic when asking for support yet the topic is off limits to guests. If I was to go to that topic using the posted link I would be shown as a guest reading that topic when in reality I would be seeing a message telling me I do not have authority to view that topic. A search bot could also get the url from this forum Things end up on google - For example if you put your forum address in google there are loads of entries including this thread on the support forum which is already indexed so that would mean if a member here including a url to a topic that too could end up in google |

Just to be clear, It also says that they are viewing and posting inside various topics. It's doing this while my board is switched to offline. I am not worried about anything, It's just bugging me and seems strange because nothing like this has ever happened before. I assumed that when your board is turned off, nothing can get in. Appreciate the help. ~TCR Ok. I might do that. Appreciate the help, Thanks guys. P.S. Hey Brian? Your signature is classic. I agree 100%. I can relate bro. ~TCR Edited by True Conservative Republic, May 6 2010, 05:28 PM.
