I want to open an RPG catering to a fandom that is rated MA. It's likely that posts on this board would have adult content including swearing etc. I've read the tou for invisionfree, but there isn't a whole lot of specifics. Am I allowed to host a board here that allows adult material to be posted? I've talked to people who have rped at infree boards that have been rated R, but I want to make sure it's actually allowed.

Help much appreciated,
Mavrick.

Sexual content is strictly forbidden. As far as I'm aware, swearing is allowed. That' would be why the word filter is optional. :P

To clarify, adult material is not allowed. Ratings are a very flexible definition so i can't say that R and MA are not allowed or that PG-13 is allowed.

Excessive profanity is prohibited as well. "Excessive" is also flexible depending on the words used, the tone of their usage, the frequency, the literary value, and the location. Censored words where a single letter is replaced with a similar number does not automatically make you exempt from it being excessive profanity.

To go into more details:
- Words used: racial or other slurs are obviously considered more serious. A single one of those is almost certainly in violation of the terms of use. The stronger a profanity, the more likely it is excessive.
- Tone: if the profanity used in anger or as a direct insult it is more serious.
- Frequency: numerous profanities even if they are minor can be excessive.
- Literary value: if the profanity plays an important part of a writing then it is less likely to be considered excessive.
- Location: A profanity in a prominent non-posting area such as group title, board title, or board name is more likely to be considered excessive.

All that said, we are looking into some improvements that will clarify both the adult content and excessive profanity aspects of the terms of use, especially when it comes to roleplay boards.

The word filter is optional because different boards may have different ways to handling profanities. Plus there are instances where the usage of a profanity would not be considered excessive.
