Do you think that IF should offer free subdomains?

In order to get a subdomain, you'd have to apply for it. Once you get it, it comes with FTP access, 1 MySQL database, PHP capabilites, 50MB of space, 1GB of bandwidth, and a preinstalled IPB. With this service, you would have to install your own modifications by yourself. Also, you would be limited one subdomain, at a time. Do you think this would be a good idea? One side of me says "yes", but the other says "Hell no!"

For all of the above I would expect that it would not be free, and I believe that much.

Maybe subdomains would be good as part of the free service.

You've just described everything IF is deliberately not.
IF is an alternative to all of that, not a service that happens to be lacking it.
Especially the part about the preinstalled IPB..?

Good idea but no preinstalled IPB. More like this:

yourname.invisionfree.com subdomain
PHP
2 MySQL Databases (1 will get you nowhere)
CGI/Perl
Space: 35 MB
Bandwidth: 900 MB

There is a tough balance to consider. The underscore (_) can not be used in a subdomain. Last time I checked people wanted underscores more than subdomains.
