That's a problem I've noticed with Opera, too. I actually missed a large amounts of posts in this topic earlier, I just scrolled right past them.

Hardly. FireFox is easily the best browser out at the moment. It renders correctly, has an amazing console for development and is reasonably fast. |

Care to explain why this was necessary, then? (ZNR stalkers may recognize this snippet, which can be found in all themes.) I have not tried the Fx 4 beta to see if it works properly. The IE 9 beta and stable versions of all the other browsers get it right. |

As you said, CSS3 isn't finalized. Try going here in Opera, then in Firefox: http://patrickkontschak.com/css3/finder/ Also, another reason Opera sucks. It's the first application in my Mac that refused to open. Now I got to re-install it. No, it's on web browsers.

I use Firefox almost exclusively, mostly because of extensions that make my job easier (such as the webdeveloper-toolbar, Live HTTP headers, and Firebug+ySlow). Regarding Chrome removing the 'http://' part, thats because instead of going to a domain, the damn thing does a Google search for the URL and then goes to the domain - you're not using HTTP directly, you're using GTTP(r). ![]() (Which sucks big time - at work we have about a dozen tools that are only available internally, using the '.dev' TLD, which doesn't really exist, which means Google can't find it, which means typing a URL into the |

I have a lot to say in terms of browsers since I've started doing website design quite seriously about a year ago and have had to actually mind cross-browser compatibility, which, by the way, is a nightmare! Anyway. Opera: Stylish. You can tell they're really putting effort into it. I think it's a pretty ok browser (don't use it unless I am on a Linux: Red Hat machine - which doesn't like Firefox 3 much for some reason) but it didn't have the addons I love and use so much. It's also a bit odd with Javascript sometimes. IE: actually, IE8 is not as horrible as 6, but it's still one of the worst browsers out there. It's so paranoid about security it doesn't even let you run Javascript unless you tell it to - every. single. time. Security mode off and all. It doesn't even READ SVGs. 9 is the new one right? That's supposed to be developed to read SVGs. About ten million years later than any other browser, thanks. However, in terms of CSS/HTML compatibility, it's not as bad as people think. If you give it strict definitions, it can render something exactly as you want it. Chrome: Very few addons! Horrible! Yes, it's sleek and minimialist. I love that. It's also the best browser you could use for web development - its console is far superior than anything else out there, including the often buggy Firebug! But its omnibar is the thing I have the most beef with. If you're using IF or Zetaboards forums, your url can be z3.invisionfree.com/boardname or s3.zetaboards.com/boardname. If you type 'board' and expect it to give you the link of your favourite haunt, you will be sorrily disappointed most of the time. By trying to be remarkably smart, Chrome costs me quite a few seconds because I have to type a lot of the URL or start with with s or z. Which is not a straightforward way to go, is it? ![]() Firefox: Addons galore. Fast enough. Starting to look more like Opera (and Chrome) now (WHY, MOZILLA, WHY). Still a bit of a resource hogger. But still a good, very usable browser. Safari: I haven't even bothered to download Safari because Safari for Windows is a joke. |

I had a strange problem in Opera for Windows once. A topic on their fora resolved it quickly and easily. ![]() The only difference was the glossiness, which turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be. Yes, I did say CSS3 isn't finalized, and won't be for some years (I believe it's expected to be done in 2012). However, apparently I now have to explain what I said. Many/most browsers have already begun to implement various parts of CSS3. Some browsers have implemented different parts from other browsers. Good for them. Thus, I don't mind if a browser hasn't attempted to start something yet (or has, but has hidden it because it's too early for use). This is why I can forgive Opera for not implementing gradients yet, or why I would be able to forgive Firefox had it not yet implemented border-radius. I can forgive proprietary prefixes during development so that things don't break, angering all the web developers, while the browser authors develop the feature so it works properly. However, when it works perfectly (as -moz-border-radius does) and every other browser does it right (i.e. without the prefix with correct rendering), there's no reason to not drop the prefix and use the de facto standard property. (Admittedly, the only reason I begrudgingly included the -moz-border-radius property was because of Helena's prodding.) Yes, gradients are nice, but like many other CSS3 features, you shouldn't expect them yet. Especially as both of the gradient implementations I know about are prefixed (-moz-linear-gradient and -webkit-gradient), so when IE and Opera finally do implement gradient, you're ignoring a chunk of your users unless you can update the coding. (I can go on from here about graceful degradation.) The screenshots I've seen so far of Firefox 4 beta indicate that it looks exactly like Opera, except with the red Opera menu button replaced with an orange Firefox menu button.

The browser I use the most is Firefox, but I also use IE. I've used Opera and Safari though, but only short term. |
