False "New Posts" Forum Marker; Not updating correctly on index.

This is a problem with InvisionFree, ZetaBoards, and vBulletin, possibly others.

When you post a new topic or add a reply, if you go directly to the index, the forum marker for that forum will show new posts. When you go into that forum, none of the topics will show new posts, and at that point the index will be updated. In order to counter this, you have to "walk" backwards through the navigation bar from the topic, to the forum, then to the index.

Is there a bit of code I can use to remedy this? I'm not sure if it's intended or a problem with the way the forum handles marking forums read, but it's annoying.

EDIT: So as not to stretch the topic list, I have another issue and I'll just post it here.
When posting emotions, it cannot have any other characters touching it. It's like an Exact Match filter. Is there any way to make it like a Partial Match filter?

Just bumping really, it's been ~48 hours, but I do have something to add- it seems that forums are actually checked independently to topics- the forum marker's new/no new status is not linked to whether or not there are topics with new posts in them. By this, I mean that you can mark a forum read just by looking at the forum's topic list, without looking inside of any of the topics. Am I the only one that finds this annoying?

Also, I edited the original post WRT emoticons being seen like exact match filters, which can be a problem, especially when trying to put an emoticon at the end of a parentheses (like this ). I think it's more likely that there is a fix for this than for my main issue here, but any information on either would be appreciated.

I'm finding this frustrating as well. The boards are showing falsely that there are unread messages, and when I post something and do not go back to view it, it marks that as unread also (it should automatically mark your own posts as read when you make them, that's just common sense).

There is not that I know of. You can request one.

There is not. Feel free to give feedback directly to Brandon on this through the Feedback & Surveys section of your ACP. I can see why it's set up that way, but in reality most people don't make emoticon triggers that are just parts of words.
