Guidelines are just that, guidelines. You don't have to follow them. Even if the app is denied access to the app store, it can still be sold. It can still be downloaded, and used. I could make a java program, using SWING, which is nothing at all like the OS X theme, turn it into a .jar file, and then anyone could download it. I just can't think of anything which would possibly allow such constraints on developers to actually exist. |

You would think Apple would follow their own guidelines, yes? |

Why would I downgrade to the Mac OS? Windows with dual Linux is perfect.

This really isn't the place for "My OS is better than your OS" nonsense. This is talking about the newest planned release of the Mac OS. Don't like Macs? Fair enough. Don't post here, then, or at least post about what you would like to see in the newest release to make it more to your liking or even have you consider it. ![]() There are plenty of other topics for your mac v. pc v. linux debate. ![]() At any rate: Any guesses as to what Apple will price this one at? Snow Leopard was about $39 and previous releases have been closer to $139. Do you think they'll go back to the higher price range (since Snow Leopard was mostly back-end things and not very many big new features) or do you think they'll try to keep $39 (to encourage mass early adoption)? |

OS X is cheap but they are not giving it away. 10.6 was cheaper than normal because the bulk of the changes are under the hood. 10.7 will have substantial visible changes. I upgrade to each new release and am happy with the product which is now a fully 64 bit program. On the other-hand, if you are fully satisfied with the release you are running, and have no interest in the new features, enjoy the one you have. |

10.5 has one major advantage over Snow Leopard... expose. Snow Leopard's expose plain sucks. All windows are made the same size and aren't arranged based on their location. |

Personally I thought that was nice. (Didn't know what Expose was until you just said that haha) It's easier to sort through them, IMO. |

http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/ With the release of the new Macbook Pro's Apple also released the first Lion Developer Beta. Of the 4 new non-server features, Resume and Airdrop seems useful to me. Versions seems like a redundant feature (Time Machine and command-v is more than useful) and I don't use the Mail app. http://www.macstories.net/news/first-screenshots-and-details-of-mac-os-x-lion/ Looks like Aqua is disappearing more. But I really don't want the lighter gradient windows, smaller traffic lights, and a white non-transparent Transparent Panel (unless Quicklook uses normal panels, then I'm thrilled about the new Panels). I'm actually running Lion through the dev preview, though I'm currently fixing the partition size. The seed is more stable than I thought it would be, so I'm gonna transition to Lion (I only gave myself about 20GB). Now my goal to beat everyone else to the upgrade, in terms of developing, so I can make mad bank. :pirate: I'll just mention what Apple has already advertised to avoid problems lol... Lots of cool features. UI updates are pretty and noticeable but not revolutionary, all the advertised features are very cool. I love mission control and launchpad, and resume has to be the coolest feature ever. Why would you say Versions is redundant? Its tailored specifically for keeping track of your various... versions of a document. I haven't used it yet, but there have been times in the past when I seriously which I could have! Not to mention not everyone has an external drive and navigating through TM to get to a document seems silly compared to this. So far there are only two glaring issues, other than a couple kinks that are going to be worked out: 1. The default background of Fuji is terrible 2. Full screen apps are useless with a dual monitor setup, as of now Edited by Clapton, Mar 8 2011, 06:35 PM.

For the most part, Linux's GUI is almost 100% consistent. Yes, there are some programs who insist on not following GTK+ (or whatever theming library your favorite DE uses), but honestly, the vast majority of programs on a well-built system will have identical GUIs. |

One of the things I like about Lion is the LaunchPad, reminds of the old "Launcher" from Classic Mac OS. |

Apparently Lion will cost $30, but only be available from app-store download (as a 4gb file) and will be available in July. I'd rather buy a disk than download it. :-/ Is that just me? but I'm definitely not complaining about the price tag. |

So someone else is watching a WWDC live stream? This is what I feared. I'll be forced to buy an 8GB flash drive now :pfft: EDIT: Coming next month! http://www.apple.com/macosx/ Edited by Pando, Jun 6 2011, 03:23 PM.

 Hi, I am new to this... just joined minutes ago! I used to be a graphic designer full time, 10 years ago; I used the very first Mac when it came out in the advertising industry 1988. Now that I am retired, I have not kept up-to-date with the newest and greatest from Mac, I try to keep up with the Mac tech. But not using my software etc. like I used to when I was working full time. I have OS v 10.5.8 should I upgrade to OS x lion? I recently gave my husband iPad for Xmas (not the iPad2... because it came out after Xmas! don't you hate that!)....Should I upgrade OS v10.5.8 to Lion X, so that my laptop will equal to his iPad OS? Will it be that easy to make the upgrade? Or will I need to purchase new HD - I currently have the Intel Core Duo (not Duo2); requirements for Lion X is: Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor to run Lion.
