Obviously a great way to increase traffic to anyones site is to do link exchanges with other sites. Now I know nothing about things like that, so how would I do that please?

I'd really like to do this. I have a couple of sites in mind that I'd like to ask. But, I don't know anything about making links. Maybe I should get myself a book on HTML. There's one on amazon called HTML for dummies, that would suit me I think. Help appreciated as always.

Creating links with HTML is a breeze! ^-^ This snippet... ... will produce this: Google This snippet... ... will produce this: ![]() In a few seconds I've created both a text-link and an image-link. To understand what's going on here you should visit w3schools and examine their HTML tutorials. http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp |

Ahhhhhhh ok. So lets just say I wanted to do a link with another chat room, and their addy was www.achatsite.co.uk (that's not a real one I don't think I just made it up) how would I do that? I shall have to look at that HTML site. I guess HTML is easy once you know how, but I don't, never done it in me life. I presume it goes in the board wrappers? |

I've been trying to practice on my test forum. I wanted to try to make a link from there, to my main board(if that makes sense) so I did this, and pasted it into my board wrappers. It worked, kind of. It did appear at the top of the page like I wanted, but when I clicked it something was obviously wrong because it didn't work properly. Here is what I did, (yes I know I made a pigs ear of it I just need to know what I did wrong). Be gentle with me, I've never done this before and I'm trying really hard to learn. It would be better if it appeared as an img link. It would look better. <a href="">http://z15.invisionfree.com/Chat_Happy/index.php?>ChatHappy</a> Obviously the plan is, to do a link with another site at some point. (you scratch my back I'll scratch yours kind of thing) I can't ask someone though until I know how to do the link properly. Incidentally, once I have got it right, how many links can I paste into the board wrappers? Is there a limit? All help appreciated as always.

Oooo I used that site and I actually made a link to another site I use!! Yayyy, I did something right for once. There's hope for me yet, even at my age. So next 2 questions are, does the link go in the board wrappers, and does it appear at the top of forum as a clickable link? If this works I really really want to do a link with another site. Oh and like I said before, is there a limit to how many links I can do? Thanks very much for all your help and patience with a non-techy oldie person. Ooops one more question, how would I make it appear as an img link? Can I get someone to make me an img to go within the link? Or maybe it would just look better as a text link................. |

I can make an HTML link appear at the top of the page, but I can't seem to work out how to make it an img link. I've got the img I want, I just can't do it. I would appreciate a bit of help with this, because I really want to do a few link exchanges with other sites to get more users, and when I do, (if they accept) I want to be able to send them a really cool img link. Help appreciated as always.

You can use the following HTML snippet to display an image with a link (if you click it):
That would display an image (such as an affiliate icon), and if clicked, would direct to the specified URL. If you're looking for an image to be designed specifically for your forum to use at other forums in link exchanges, then I'd recommend requesting one and requesting an affiliate icon. These icons are commonly used to advertise and affiliate with other forums, and can be designed to match your theme.

Just one question. I've made an img link for my chat room at the top of the forum, BUT it's flashing and it shouldn't be. Any idea why? I'm a bit stumped. |

Are you referring to this image? If so, I took a look at the direct link to the image and it appears to be flashing too. Was the image supposed to be animated? |

Yep that's the one. I don't understand why it's flashing, because if you look at the forum called: *CHAT ROOM LINK* and click the post there, there is an img link to the chat room and it doesn't flash so why this one is doing it is beyond me. Hmmm  http://z15.invisionfree.com/Chat_Happy/index.php?showtopic=254 I suppose I could just make it an ordinary link, but an img link looks better. |
