New Member Permission Mask

Because new members constantly seam unable to read our rules, i put into place a new permission mask and new Member Group. I called it Newbie and they pretty much have all the normal member permissions, minus the ability to post in our For Sale section. I also setup a Promote rule, so when they got to a certain number of posts, they would automatically be promoted to a Member and be able to post in the For Sale Section.
My problem is, when people are joining the forum, they are being put automatically into the Members user group, not the Newbie user group.
What have i done wrong and what do i need to do to get it to work.
I have looked and looked and i cannot suss it.

Cheers.

In this case, you should make the original member group that came with the board the "Newbie" group, as when members join then are put into that group. Then put the auto-promote onto that group, so they promote to a new group that you have created called Members. Basically just switch what you did on the groups and it should be fine. :)

Mmmm, now i've done that and it still hasn't worked. It has put a new member, that i created, straight into Members, which was the Newbie Group i had created. Does it just put New sign ups into a group called Members maybe...

Any other ideas ?

Thank you.

As far as I know, they should go to the original group. Just to verify, you shouldn't be able to delete the "Newbie" group if it were the default group, can you?
