AT&T, America's second largest carrier is buying America's 4th largest carrier T-Mobile!!! WOW. Didn't see that one coming especially after all of the T-Mobile merging with Sprint rumors.

The merger will make AT&T America's largest carrier with 130+ Million users....a record Verizon JUST claimed the title of after it acquired Altell a few months ago.

AT&T just announced that they're buying T-Mobile from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion. The deal makes AT&T the largest network in the country by far (adding 33 million T-Mobile subscribers to AT&T's 95 million, comparatively Verizon has 94 million), leaves only three major US carriers and, well, technically gives T-Mobile users a real 4G strategy in LTE. No specific details on how AT&T will juggle the transition and what it means for T-Mobile customers yet.

Are you on T-Mobile or AT&T, will this affect your contract status? What do you think about the merger?

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

The real question is who will pounce on Sprint/Nextel?

i honestly wouldnt be surprised if Google got into the game. i mean they already have google voice, google talk, gmail, maps, their own OS with android and honeycomb tablet os. they have companies jumping at the chance to make either next big phone.

also google is working on their internet service with their fiber optics. so at the rate their going wouldnt surprise me.

A blast from the past.

I hope this means that my girlfriend will get better coverage at college, she has T-mobile right now and the closest T-mobile tower is 75 miles away and she just may receive a voice mail message if the weather is clear and the wind is blowing the right direction.

I doubt it. Google is not a national company; it's an international company. It would be uncharacteristic for it to enter such a restricted, national market. Also, Google launching itself as a carrier or acquiring an existing national carrier would present a conflict of interest. It's in Google's best interests to continue marketing Android and Android-powered handsets to multiple carriers. If it were competing for market share, it would be sabotaging those interests.
