I'm sorta surprised this hasn't be implemented yet as it's very useful on some forums, especially to keep some topics within a section in check w/o a mod or an admin being there all of the time.

What I'm talking about is something along the lines of an auto lock. As in being able to set a certain section of a forum to lock topics after a certain number of posts (ex: set topics to automatically lock themselves after 300 posts or something) w/o having to manually lock them.

Also, it would be nice to have another similar feature that either automatically lock an inactive topic after a certain time period (lets say...after 30 days, an inactive topic will automatically lock) or be automatically moved to another section of the forum after a certain time period.

I believe some features like the above would be pretty useful to some forums and reduce the amount of work to do in said forums.

An auto-lock for inactive topics would be great, but why an auto-lock for topics that reach a certain post count? That seems to me like the opposite of an auto-lock for inactive topics, but I suppose it could be used for certain forum games. I can't think of any other uses, though.

I agree with JJEmpire. Auto locking active topics is like killing the discussion. Sooner or later people may not want to talk at Your board if they will remember that after X posts the whole discussion will be locked and they will need to create a new topic for the same thing.

As for Auto locking inactive topic, once I remember I've heard and read a feature suggestion - Topic Auto tools that they would not need Admin/Mod activation to work. Maybe You may want to suggest a similar feature?

Why do you question his uses for this? You should comment on the feature suggestion, not his personal use for it...

I think this would be great, and I can find a use for both on my board. I'd say it, but the peanut gallery here would jump on it and rip it apart faster than flies on trash.

However, in the meantime before this implemented, are you aware of the feature where you can set topics in certain forums to be removed from after x time period? You can edit these settings when you edit a forum in the Section Manager of the Admin CP.

I currently don't run a board where this would be useful to me. However, I do like it. Being a member of some larger forums with many members, I've seen instances where old threads (sometimes older than a year) were suddenly bumped up for no reason. That's kind of annoying, so an auto-lock for inactive threads would be great. :D

Auto-locking for popular threads doesn't make much sense to me, but I'm sure there are boards that would find that functionally useful as well. ^_^

What's the problem with an old topic being bumped up by a response. At least one person was interested in it and posted. There might be more. If not, the topic falls back down the list again. I fail to see any problem here.
