Eye On![]() Interview with Fatal.cure, May 11th
First off, tell us a little about your background. When did you start designing, and why were you drawn to the design field? Well, I started browsing forums around 2005-2006, back when IFSZ was truly at its prime(well for me..since that was my era <3 lol), and well as every noobie who joins forums, wants to start one of his own...but as I was browsing through the "skins" that were available, I didn't really like too many of them, or most of them didn't fit with what I wanted to do(my first idea was a general chat board...hmnn...) anyways, I finally found an invisionfree board called "no limits" who there was one of first friends "mike"(also known as premium), and well he basically taught me the works of coding, and design, and from there I went on to self teach my self. ![]() Do you have any sort of formal training in design? If not, is it something you plan on exploring in the future? Formal training? nope, My oldest brother is actually a web designer who owns his own company and whatnot...and he is as well self taught...so when I asked him to teach me, he said no, and threw me a bunch of photoshop BOOKS!!!(pfft..he expected me to read...and I did.. >.<) So yes in the end I truly self taught myself most of the things i know...and yes I am in college now for a major in Physics and calculus and minor in business...but I am planning to take some design course's to see how much more I could learn from a real person other then books, and tutorial websites <3 Are you one to follow trends, or do you tend just to do your own thing? I tend to do my own thing..and that's what most people will say about me...I have a very consistent style...I'll change it up maybe for one theme here and there but I'll always go back to my style for the next one >.< a bad habit of mine Is there one color pallet that you find you enjoy using more then others? You could've left this question out >.< if I truly truly had to choose....it would be a slate grey, with a dark navy blue, teal, and a lime green...that or black, orange and a light grey. What, in your opinion, is the most important thing in a theme (H2, submenu, etc…)? tbh...readability and usability...without those two things, design won't help much...but if I had to choose probably the whole category area and the header, as those are two eye popping things people notice first thing, those two will make the first impression. Describe your design style in three words. glossy...glossy...glossy... jk... it would be glossy, colorful, and effective. Where do you find sources for inspiration, and how do you come up with ideas for your designs? To be honest, I'll just go into photoshop and start designing...if I don't like my outcome, it goes into my declined folder and I might open it up back later and retry that same design...and after I put one into the declined folder, I'll go onto the next design..and if I do like it then I'll continue and it will get a folder of its own in my files...but for inspiration..I just think of things in my head, If I do end up needing a little push I'll go to smashing magazine or the FWA website. If you could give one piece of advice for designing a theme, what would it be? START OFF SMALL!!! A lot of people expect to go into photoshop/gimp/corel/etc and just design something amazing right of the bat... You need to start off extremely small, like as in oss based themes, you need to find your pace of design. And one thing I can't stress more is TUTORIALS...TUTORIALS...AND MORE TUTORIALS.... when I say I can't stress more its like tutorials for breakfast..brunch...lunch..dinner... and the late night snack... You can't get better without learning and practicing. And as a general rule of thumb...learn your toolbar(possibly become one with the toolbar if your a jedi....) Alright. Now for the fun ones! Favorite ice cream flavor? Vanilla Watching a movie in the theater or at home? Theater! A long road trip in the car or a short flight in an airplane? Long road trip in the car! fun times ![]() Winter or summer? hmnn...summer! Mac or PC? both...(if I had to choose pc...) Laptop or desktop? desktop Alfred the amazing skydiving squirrel, or Peter the pathetic, but lovable, juggling snake? AMAZING SKYDIVING SQUIRREL of course!!! |
