What is the price range you're looking at? I have heard nothing but bad things about Dell laptops, honestly. The company used to be great, but it seems like it has since decreased in quality. I'm an Apple fanboy, so I'd say go with a Mac. (Even the basic one works very well.) But, if you're looking at a Windows computer, I think HP puts together some great laptops. Sony Vaios are also decent, as well as Toshiba, if I remember correctly. :)

on the other hand i've had a few Sony Vaio laptops but mostly Dell and my PC is also a Dell, never a single problem with them. on the cheaper laptops the plastics feel and look horrible but they have been very reliable for me just to defend Dell :D

I'm a bit curious, what do you mean when you say the laptop "crashed?" I just trying to find out if it's a software or hardware issue. Because it's always cheaper to do a fresh re-installation (which often does wonders,) or find a replacement part online. If it's more expensive to get your laptop repaired then maybe you should look into getting a new laptop.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything. I'm just one of those kinds of people that try to fix things until I'm am incapable of fixing it. To me a computer is like a car, you don't buy a brand new one until your current one is "totaled" or too expensive to maintain.
