They come in a single HTML page, which is fine but eventually becomes unmanagable for large amounts of long PM conversations. So my suggestion is instead of that single HTML, to have a ZIP file with seperate pages for each conversation. Perhaps if it stresses the server too much you could only be able to do it once in awhile

I imagine that doing so would cause extraordinary strain on the servers, and that is why Brandon has it set up as it it.
Personally, I have so many archived PMs on one board that I am unable to download PMs before a certain date. I can't back up all my PMs at all, it just times out or errors or something, and I have to live with doing the past 90 days or whatever fairly frequently - but there will always be those very old PMs that I'll never be able to back up. :tut:
So if the current system sometimes fails, I imagine that a more intensive system would fail more frequently, and that the way it is set up now is simply the better of the options available.

Wouldn't an easier way of backing up PM's be using the check boxes to select what ones to download? There might be random PM's you don't really need to download but aren't spammy enough to warrant deleting them from your inbox, so you end up downloading useless PM's in with the ones you need. Also, it would avoid the whole problem of PM's being too old to download through the current methods.
