I've got to admit, the whole touch idea is awesome, and the way you can use Windows 8 touch UI alongside Windows 7 UI. But, the whole idea seems stupid, as desktops/laptops will keep using mouse/trackpad, and Windows tablets should be running WP7/8 instead of Windows 8 as tablets are too underpowered (unless they managed to drastically reduce the power needs of Windows).

I hate it. It appears they are moving away from the idea of a traditional operating system for a typical PC. I can't imagine myself using a touch screen interface with a mouse and keyboard on a day-to-day basis. Seems like pure torture.

Luckily, supposedly this is just an 'edition' of Windows 8 (much like Professional, home premium etc).

Saddly that is where GUIs for computers are heading. :/

OSX
The app store, 10.7 has a lot of iOS style functionality (holding on a icon to delete it, etc).

Ubuntu has the Unity GUI now.

It's because non-techie people are so use to "smart" phones now the powers that be think that they will only feel conferable with a smart phone like interface, honestly though I could never find my way out of my LG Vu (and a piece of trash it was) I am too use to a Windows and *Nix way of placing things and logic.

Get used to it, because it's not going anywhere. I think both the traditional pc, and mobile device OS environments will diverge, until all devices run the same software. Obviously not the same, but an apple mobile device will be the same as a pc, and a windows phone will be the same as windows, etc.. I don't really like it, but I have to admit, there is probably a fair amount of merit to it. If done correctly, it could be a productivity boost, and create more intuitive applications. But it could go terribly wrong too. Oh so wrong.

I imagine that there was probably similar resistance in the early days of GUI applcations. Just as some programmers were against using C, and preferred doing the hardware instructions.

It's too hard to decide if it is an issue with the new trend being not as good, or if it's just a resistance to change.

Only time will tell, I suppose.

Agreed. Touchscreen seems like it'd be nice, but I think it'll get annoying really qiuck.

Really? A Windows 8 already? Windows 7 has already just sunk in. I mean I understand bringing Windows 7 quickly out to replace the god-awful Vista, but why make a new operating system when we already have a fantastic one? I think Microsoft is just trying to show off now on touch and voice technology. QUIT MAKING EVERYTHING SO GIMMICKY! :annoyed:
