Suggestion: Phone-friendly version (user-agent?)

Recently the internet on my street went down (and it's still going down sporadically) and I had the fun of trying to access my ZetaBoards forum on my little phone to explain what was going on. Basically, it's almost impossible to use and I had to turn off the graphics to keep it from running out of memory (it was a cheap phone).

So perhaps there could be some sort of lighter board layout that works when the website detects a user-agent thats a phone? I'd screenshot one I saw on another board but I may get in trouble. Thanks.

There are several imageless themes found there that are imageless, good for mobile phones/slow internet speed :)

Well even when I did turn off the graphics it was still difficult to use (because of the tables).

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

A mobile app is planned. We do not have any eta on it's release at the moment. It is one of many ongoing projects we have. The current priority is stabilizing Server 4 which has been suffering from frequent attacks.

We realize that being able to easily view the board on your phone is important and when we have further information, we will provide it. Until then, we appreciate your patience.

Thanks. I suggest having just one column for the table layout as that doesnt get squashed.

As previously mentioned, a mobile app is on the agenda and will definitely be launched in the future. :)

I hope I still have a forum by then. I'm getting half the posts I was when this ap was first mentioned. And less than a quarter of what I was a couple years ago. Facebook is killing us.

Social networking services dominate because of their abilities to connect people, places and things effortlessly. A message board admin whose vision involves general chat is faced with tremendous difficulties. Facebook will always emerge the victor over your attempt at creating a social site. What this means is, even with a mobile application you will still be faced with the limitations of lacking overall specificity. Overcoming such a large challenge is easy to plan but nightmarish to execute. Successful message boards exist, and when you find one it's not hard to see why.

Popular communities are good at solving problems, making people laugh, reinventing the wheel and offering unique interactive experiences.

If your vision is to create a rich social experience for your community you'll have to face the looming challenge of creating a better Facebook, otherwise that's the place your members will go for that particular social experience.

actually I'm referring to the fact that more and more people are trying to post from their phones. It's easy to post on facebook, hard to do it on zeta. Members are just hooking up on facebook and connecting there.

It's coming I promise. It should be iPhones first, followed by Android phones I believe.

Looking forward to it. But in all honesty I will happily wage my monthly earnings that it doesn't appear this year.

Hope to be proved wrong though :ermm:
