I think that ZetaBoards is missing a "Moderator BBCode".

It could have a fancy appearance or a very classic one, but still it is needed.

Only Members who can access RCP can use it. For other Members it will not work at all.

For Forum Moderators there could be a special setting "Can use [mod] BBCode?".

Users are not allowed to complete edition of their post, if they will remove this [mod] BBCode. Similar thing Reid did in his Dice Roll script - user can not press "Edit Post" button, because of a small notice between preview post screen and reply box: "You appear to have a malformed roll. Please correct it and try again.". Staff Members of course can remove or change content of this [mod] BBCode.

Hey Nemo,

While this is a cool idea and could have a lot of uses - it isn't as easy to implement as you're suggesting.
What if I want to add a staff note in a non-staff member's post? That member can no longer be able to edit their post? Or would it be that I wouldn't be able to input it?
What about quoting a post with a moderator note? The BBCode shows up unparsed in the quote box. (This is true of the [member] BBCode as well. If a guest can post in a forum, and they quote a post with the member bbcode, they can what was within those tags in the "quoting" box of the posting page.)
It would be a lot of work, and to disable things as Reid's dice roll script does would be frustrating. It works for a JavaScript addon because, well, that's the nature of javascripting something and there weren't really other options - but if it's a feature on the board it should be a full feature and not hinder things in other ways.

It rather would be the case, that when user press "Edit" button then the system is checking, if there is any [mod] BBCode. If it is, then system forbids the user from editing his post as long as there is not [mod] BBCode anymore.

But I see some holes in this now. The first one is that user could easily change the [mod] content as long as opening tag still exist there, unless the system would save whole [mod]*content*[/mod].

The second problem would be, if user would edit his post with [mod] BBCode, and would want to add the second [mod]. Basically both of them should work, but the second one would be Member controlled, not Staff controlled.

===

The best possible way then would be, if there would be some area within every post, that only Moderator and higher can edit. At the bottom of every message but before user's signature. If it is empty, then it is not visible. But if it has any content, then there would be normal buttons (edit, quote, delete) available only to Staff. [mod] Button would work only in that space.

To everyone who has not added this topic to "ignored topics" yet. :wub:

I have planned to mention about this a while ago. This time it is about Admin Digest. Thanks to it Admins can recevive a special PM how many visitors have registered to their board. I won't mention that this PM would stack with other such a PMs, because this already was mentioned a lot of times before.

My suggestion is about something different, about changing one link to another.

This: New accounts registered is a link to Members List, to default MEMBER group, displayed by Join date in descending order.

===

But this: New accounts requiring admin approval: is a link to Admin CP, to Members Awaiting Authorization. It should not be. It should be a link to Members List, to default VALIDATING group, displayed by Join date in descending order.

PM should not force Admin to log it to Admin CP. The main function of this PM is just to be an information what happened to the board during lastest 24 hours. Admin in this PM should be able to see newest registered Validating accounts. Only. Then when he would have the time, he may access ACP and approve them. This should be his own will to access ACP.

I would just be happy if you could specify which BBCode is allowable in sigs versus posts, honestly. But you've got some great ideas here.

I'd also love to see some more usable elements added to ZBP because as it is, I don't want to log my users' PMs (the Report function works fine in lieu of that), and I think Admins should be able to view edits on standard ZB. I'm okay with paying $8/mo for that feature, but it would be nice if there were some more added.

I honestly wasn't aware that members could delete their own shouts. I thought that was Mod/Admin only. Color me clueless. :P

Is there a way to revoke a member's ability to use Shoutbox if he abuses it? Perhaps that would work as well.

The shoutbox works like regular forums with permission sets. The shoutbox has permissions for View and Shout.

Ah, it hadn't occurred to me to create a new group for members who cannot use Shoutbox. I was thinking along the lines of Member Auto Tools. Thanks for clearing that up. (And sorry for the hijack.)

Not a problem.
Also, you can use Member Autotools to move members to other groups, so that'd still work. :P
