Yep, this is a feature of InvisionFree, would be great to see it in ZB too!

I don't think that would even work, especially with things like images where people sometimes just click the attachment to see a preview.

Apparently it's an IF feature though, so why couldn't it work for ZB?

As of right now, there is no way to count downloads of uploaded files as the files are served by a bare bones server for extra fast load times.
