You know this "show first post at the top of each page" feature? As creative as it is... it sucks. Can there be a way to disable it in all forums? I cba having to go round unticking it all the time. |

You can disable by editing the option per-forum. In other words, go to the Section Manager, then 'Edit Settings', and hit 'No' on 'Show first post of topics on every page:'.

Cody: Yeah, I know how to disable it, hence the "unticking" part of my OP. But as Crayj says, either have it default as "no", or have a option in forum settings which allows to turn it off, even if it's ticked. Make sense? |

I thought it was supposed to have been default 'No' when it was added, and I don't recall seeing it active on my forum for a few days after the upgrade, but now I'm seeing it on my forum and others as if it's suddenly enabled. Really annoying and things like this should really be set to not enabled, especially when manually disabling it requires you to edit each individual forum one at a time and there's 'master' control. |

I agree that a global enable/disable feature for all forums would be useful. In addition to global enabling/disabling an option could be added to let the forum settings decide, so basically:![]() You could use JavaScript to remove it if you don't want to take the time to disable it on every forum if you have a lot of forums.

You're a god Cory, thanks man. I'll use that in the meantime. Thanks for everyone else's replies, hopefully a global disable will be added in future. |

On my test forum, it is default 'no'. |

It should be default "no." I'm not sure why it would've just switched to yes. ![]() That said, I would like to argue against a global disable. Options that only affect other options will only cause confusion. As people forget that one of the options exists and wonder why the other doesn't work, we'll have frustrated users who will then come to ask for support and/or complain. Sure, it'll be a boring 15 minutes, but it's only 15 minutes. |

There were some weird glitches with it being set to "yes" when editing a forum but not actually working as if enabled until said forum was edited. (Pete and I both noted this.) However, it only effected existing boards when the upgrade happened and there seemed to be little rhyme or reason to which forums experiences it. On new boards, and for newly created forums on boards, the default is "No". |

In that case, my vote for a global feature is moot. I can still see it being useful because it stresses users out to go into each forum to tick a setting that can be ticked with one switch. Basically to make the feature less confusing, a link back would be given from the forum settings page to the page where you can use the global feature. Each separate feature would describe how and where it's controlled. Essentially, it could work to the users advantage if it is executed properly. |

It can also destructively clutter the ACP. |

it seems to be automatically turning itself back on as well. made a new forum, turned it off, it shows off, but put first post at the top of 3 pages cory, where do i put that snippit of code, i loathe this thing and never want to see it again added it to below the board and it's disappeared the additional added first posts. thank you cory and nicholas, i added new forums after the update, the default was "yes" in every instance Edited by crayj, Oct 20 2011, 07:07 PM.

I personally think the link back is all that would be required to make it work, and that's one line of text.

But from a usability standpoint, it's one more thing to have to look at and one more thing to distract the user from what he/she is trying to do. |
