Sorry, but you're not making much sense. If adding one option to the Admin CP is disruptive, then a new feature should never be added again. This feature is already repeated on every forum settings page, adding in the global feature would be an individual setting on a different page. How I see it is it's one more thing that gives the user easy usability if they want to enable it globally or disable it globally, because like I said, users become stressed out and frustrated by having to repeat one process multiple times. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you. |

What you're proposing is not adding an option. Adding options to the ACP is useful; where it takes attention from other things, it gives attention to a feature and the way to modify it. Since it's in the same category, presumably that feature is somewhat related to other features there. The case I'm making is this: Adding redundant options (like having both a board option and a per-forum option for Linear+) is confusing. There are ways to make it less confusing, but those ways add distractions which ultimately make the ACP less usable. There's a reason there aren't global options for all the per-forum or per-user/per-group options. No, it's not. The feature is technically slightly different on each page, in that changing the option for the Announcements forum will do something slightly different from changing the option for General Chat. Adding a global option would just be another option (granted, on a separate page) that duplicates all of these. How I see it is a huge load of more support tickets. I must agree with EA this time. While global option technically may sound good, it is better to have just what we have right now - per forum only. Even if this feature that is suggested in this topic is added, Admins still would need to edit all their forums to set to "No" or to "Base on forum settings". Just like right now they are forced to do so. In fact maybe better option would be to let this feature be user controlled, not admin controlled. === EDIT: I would want to point out that while this suggestion was good when the feature was going to be added: (set everything to "Base on forum settings", and then in Board Customisation "yes/No"), now it is not. For example I have 50 forums - random half of them is Linear+, the other half not. I could turn really mad, if ZB would set that 25 forums to be "Base on forum settings" without any warning message that it is going to do so. So I would need to think again (and set again) which forums had this feature enabled, and which not. Edited by Nemomon, Oct 23 2011, 03:09 AM.

Well, it doesn't matter now, won't need a feature. Cory's code works like a charm. You're a legend man, keep it up. |
