This has nothing to do with my forum, I was just wanting to add it while here and checking on a couple of things. I noticed that the quick reply has mysteriously disappeared from this forum, was it the forum gremlins that did it, or planned by staff so we have to use the add reply option.? I'm one that's lazy when posting and prefer the quick reply, and if adding a smiley, I add the code seeing as I remember a few. Maybe one of the staff can tell me why it's disappeared, I've noticed it's been gone a while now, and I'm missing it.

The issue of whether fast reply should be enabled in the support forums has been debated for a long time. In the past, there was much more daily activity than currently. At that time, fast reply was removed from the support forums to slow down spam replies, and to encourage users to take more time crafting their responses in the support section. What had been happening is that some members tried to best each other in how fast they could answer a support topic, and often incomplete or inaccurate information was posted as a result. Flood control times were also increased at one point, I believe for that same reason. The conditions that made that move necessary seem no longer to be in play. (or maybe that's because there is no fast reply. ) It's something that can be discussed again. I'll move this to service discussion and we can see where it goes. |

Thanks Helena, I know I posted in the wrong place, I'm glad you moved this to the right place. Getting back on topic though, I've noticed for some time there's been a bit of time between a new thread going up and a reply coming in, and the quick reply was there at the time, as I used it on a number of occasions. Maybe people are slowing down a little in giving replies to topics now, I've noticed that most replies are reasonably informed. There has been a few times I've replied to a thread because some info's been missing, but from what I've seen, it's not a common thing, mind you, I didn't see it as a major issue with the quick reply here. I guess there's always going to be someone who posts a reply and either doesn't explain properly or leaves out key pieces of info which ever option you use. It's easy giving an answer to something you know how to do in your sleep, it's another to give an answer that someone new can understand too. I've only ever seen the occasional topic that hasn't been answered clearly or fully and if I've known the solution to the problem, I haven't minded adding to the thread so the person can fix what ever is wrong in their forum. I may see the same thing again, and not mind adding to the thread in order to clear things up a little if I can. |

What makes no sense to me is that IF support forum does have fast reply enabled while ZB support forum does not. It doesn't look like the fast reply being there is effecting anything anymore as far as quality of responses. I was around these parts to know why it was disabled back in the day but now it is just a pain to not have it while the benefits of disabling it have long since vanished. |

This. Why is it disabled in one support section but enabled in another? And, it's even enabled in the ZB theme support forum but not the general support forum? There's not even uniformity within one category right now. I do agree that fast reply should be enabled. This is the only forum I go to where I actually click the Add Reply button to post on a topic. If people are "racing to reply to a topic first" then you should be able to deal with them on an individual basis and let everyone else (including the staff) enjoy the ability to use the Fast Reply box to avoid one less click and increase response time. |
