like it says on the tin, I'm curious if Zeta plans on keeping up with the Jones' by incorporating LightBox2 or any similar .js based image handler thanks for the read, it's appreciated

Who are the Jones’? :ph34r: I doubt you will see a lightbox integrated with ZetaBoards any time soon, and there’s a simple reason: there are too many lightboxes out there, and different types work for different people. It’s really something better served by a third-party code. We are lucky to have an active community of coders who make things like ZetaBoards-specific lightbox scripts. So perhaps the question isn’t will we incorporate “LightBox 2” but when will some intrepid coder come out with a LightBox 2 script for ZetaBoards? (Maybe it’s already happened!) |

nah.. I'm pretty sure I meant exactly what was originally asked ~ thanks for the sidetrack and speculation tho, it's appreciated for sure lol -.- and the Jones' (or Joneses) is an idiom... Edited by Kotton, Nov 5 2011, 09:38 PM.

Ben's post was hardly sidetracking/speculation... It's not something that applies to many boards, so I can't see it being integrated natively into ZB. However, a very quick Google search has showed me a jQuery plugin that does it; using this, it is easy to apply a lightbox effect to your board. (You'll have to upload the script and CSS to your board to be able to link them in the Board Wrappers.) If you want it to affect posts, you'll also need to do this:
If you want grouping, a somewhat fancier script will be necessary but can be done. |

thx Alchemist, I ran across that a while ago, but considering it would require image links to be html and add specific Slimbox attributes within those html tags, it wasn't at all what I was looking for and the main reason for my question (ease of use thru Zeta's native coding) ..or does your additional script tags handle this to where we can utilize the scripts via normal BBCode within the posts? ..if so, what would be contained within the tags because I've tried it and nothing happens with a normal BBCode linked full size image within posts as for the speculation, I meant this;
and the sidetrack, this;
I was initially looking for a definitive answer to my query.. so Ben's post did not answer my question at all imo, and further went on to describe lightbox scripts made for and by the community, which was not what I was looking for or asking about ~ as all the Zeta specific LightBox scripts I've found in the past (other than the one you've posted) were either outdated, had no support, or flat out did not work - if my statement came across as rude, my apologies as that was not my intent - thanks again for the links and additional 411 Edited by Kotton, Nov 7 2011, 11:21 PM.

You will find that we do not often provide “definitive answers” to these feature requests. We will often share our personal opinions about potential features, or we will provide, as I have done, some reasons why these features are likely or not likely to appear. Ultimately, Brandon is the one who decides what gets implemented. Also, we like to hear what other users have to say about these features as well and gauge whether there is interest in them. I think a lightbox script is an unlikely addition, but we could change our minds, and demand is sometimes a reason for that. However, the nature of such discussions mean that “sidetracks” are inevitable. People often bring unanticipated insights or, as I attempted to do, suggest an alternative that would help in the short term. |

Browsers only display data given to them in HTML. Forum software (including ZetaBoards) automatically converts the BBCode you give to it into HTML that browsers can see. (If you look at the page source, you'll see that images in posts are along the lines of <img src="IMAGE URL HERE" alt="Posted Image" />.) The additional script should handle adding the appropriate anchor tags to images in posts and belongs at the bottom of the board; however, it appears I didn't look at the page source fully and so I didn't quite understand exactly what they wanted; I'll put up another one shortly. That script goes at the bottom of the board, but it does not include the lightbox plugin (you'll have to upload that and include it yourself in the JavaScripts section). Here you go. Put it below the board or above the copyright; this should make all the images in posts 72px wide until you click on them and group them by post.

wow, that's pretty freakn awesome Alchemist, thank you! only problem I seem to have is with kats that use imageBam and ScreenSider as their service, it pulls up the thumbnail instead of the full res image ~ it also re-sizes all images within a post to the given pixel within your code (even thumbnails), which I flipped to 350, so thumbnails that were 180px width for example, are now 350 lol.. BUT I can easily gather a consensus about it.. because most other services seem to work fine (Shack, Bucket, Abload, herosh, fotki.yandex.ru, gallery.ru, ect, ect) - basically anything that allows hotlinking works, anything that does not, seemingly will not (makes sense tho) ..unless of course, is there any way to exclude imgBam's service within your code? if not, no worries - as I'm grateful just to have a working lightbox on my sh*t WOO! lol |

I'm not familiar with them, but it's possible to exclude sites with thumbnails that already link to full-sized images (as long as I have a list of those sites, or I could check the URL for an image file extension). As for images less than 350px being enlarged, you can change the "width" to "max-width" to prevent smaller images from being enlarged. |

the only two that seem to need exclusions atm.. threw in BBCode examples for reference as well; (imageBam) - [url=http://www.imagebam.com/image/4dbe16157965594][img]http://thumbnails27.imagebam.com/15797/4dbe16157965594.jpg[/img][/url] (Screensider) - [url=http://screensider.com/6401][img]http://screensider.com/images/albums/62/84jTdA-300x200.jpg[/img][/url] and many thanks for the 'max-width' attribute/correction, works flawlessly the only suggestion I might add, is if you're going to release this (DO IT! lol), it'd be hella sikk to have an on/off text button up top in the submenu (oooh that'd be bat sh*t HOT! lol) |
