I was talking on another forum about the fact that ZB groups Bots and Guests together in the active users list (and also factors into the users online today code). This could be avoided if ZB would separate Bots and Guests and give separate numbers for how many are/were online instead of putting both as guests. Would make the stats much more credible and worth having.

Other softwares do this (You see Google, Yahoo, etc. as groups in the online list) and so I'm sure this could be done here with a little time and effort for a better looking stats area.

I would also agree that this is a worthwhile feature to have in place. It would make users online records more meaningful and make the users online list easier to read through without bots filling up the users list with bogus guests as I would prefer that a guest to be a human who is not registered and not one of countless search bots.

This is a good idea, but only if that bots will have a setting: Hide this bot from non-Staff view? - so non-Super Mods and higher may or may not see them.

The way I envision this is to have everyone able to see bots, but as bots and not guests. So bots would be placed in a Bot group (made default so it can't be removed like Root Admin, Members, Guests and Validating).

Sure, I agree to that. But my Members do not need to see the bots because actually this is annoying to see them in online list.

I'm pretty sure Javascript could take care of hiding Bots once they were separated from Guests.

I agree. I'd like this feature as well. Lots of other types of forum software have this feature so why can't zetaboards?

Sure GAK, name the time and the place and I'll be there. :P
You make a good point indeed. phpBB(which I HATE) has it, SMF, vbulletin and proboards all have it. Now since zetaboards is FAR superior to all those, I don't see why it can't be included as well. :)

phpBB has a lot of great features, even though it is sometimes hard to use. Personally I would want to see most/all of its features here. And I am very against suggestions that a lot of features may kill Admins who will not know how to use them. Why in the first place are they Admins if they do not know how to administrate? I did not knew English well (and nota bene I still do not know it...) when I was administrating my board, and yet it at all was not a barrier for me. Better is having a lot of features than a lack of features.

Also, I am awaiting a picture of Your wedding kiss

What features of phpBB would you like to see included with zetaboards then? Please don't say the permissions. I'd cry if that happened. They have got to be the most complicated permissions I've ever tried to use, note TRIED. I couldn't get the hang of them. phpBB2 is easy peasy, but 3, forget it.

I am actually running Talisman board using phpBB 2 :D

And yes, permissions are hard to use from one side but also great to use from the other. Setting "Private" I can set every singe Member what he can and cannot see withouit needing to create yet again permission mask.

Next, "new posts". They will stay new until You will see them. Them, not just a topic with them. Even if You will keep seeing given topic but not a page with given new post, it will still appear as a new post until viewed.

"See own posts" feature that lists all the topics You have ever replied to. Combined with previous feature this can be a great thing to see the posts You really want to see. Personally I am using this feature well.

Possibility to ignore topics is a good possibility too. They will appear only in "topics I have been replying to", in forum view, in "new posts" &c they will be hidden.

Groups. I have planned to make a whole long topic about this. How phpBB groups are great, and how ZetaBoards joinable groups are not. Possibility to make it hidden + possibility to add a colour to it (so users in it will have different colour than their usergoup shows) PLUS possibility to set them different permissions than their groups have such as possibility to edit/delete own posts, create polls &c IS a GREAT thing. For example:

Users: Nemomon, Brandon, Jonathan, Helena, Bluezone777

I am let's say normal Member, Brandon an Admin. Jonathan, Helena and Bluezone are normal Members too. They as You can see share their usercolour. I am normal member at active usergroups list, yet I have different colour than the rest groups (hidden joinable group + colour). Jonathan has possibility to delete own posts (hidden joinable group with permission to delete own posts, default colour), only Helena can create polls (hidden joinable group with permission to create polls in ZetaBoards Discussion forum, default colour), and Bluezone has no abilities at all. Only Admins can tell that Jonathan and Helena has additional abilities. In all aspects they are normal Members. This works also as forbidding - let's say while everyone can delete own posts, only Jonathan cannot. Without needing to create a new usergroup for that.

Similar usage have "Ranks". They also are hidden. With Ranks and HTML I can do real miracles. For example I can alter EVERY single account whatever I want:

Posted Image

and again they are hidden from Members view. Only Admins can see this.

Possibility to see "who have seen this topic" as well as "topics seen by this Member".

Finally, small things such as possibility to change topic/username colour, or additional level for Pinned topics.

I would like it very much if search bots were separated out from Guests. I agree that it would be preferable to hide them from Members if desired.

I would love it if the bots could be tagged or something. Where it shows up as Google Bot or whatever. I currently have 102 guests on my board. I'd like to know which ones are legit guests and not a bot looking at a six year old topic three times. Heh.

I absolutely support this idea. I was just thinking about this the other day while browsing some forums on other providers.
