Yes, I have read some comments from Nicola or Steve that generators are bad. And better is learining CSS instead of using them. As well as even after using a generator there is still much work with coding. Yet I think that ZetaBoards should have something like easy to use for beginners generator. It still saves a lot of work for colours &c. If that generator would feature most/all of CSS classes and IDs &c ZetaBoards is using with a quick access to them and preview, it would be not bad. Including and listing all the classes and IDs that are added tp ZB but no one ever heard of them. Some users would want to change the colour or just one thing, such as Shoutbox Post Background Colour topic, but they don't know where to look for it. |

They've been tried. Just ask Reid ![]() In all seriousness, several staff and prominent members have attempted to make a theme generator. It's more difficult than you would think. |

In short, creating a quality theme generator became akin to rewriting FireBug and making it ZetaBoards-only. It'd be far better for people to just learn how to use firebug. ![]() Additionally, losing work when working with staff's personal hosting plans was a problem. |

Just use the Imageless Theme Generator that Reid made, it's basically the same thing. |

Care to share a link to it? I don't recall seeing it Anyway, still it would be great if theme generator would be ACP integrated I think. |

There was one someone created and was available for awhile, but it was deleted apparently (the Wayback Machine has it indexed). It would be nice to have one available, but it requires a lot of work to create one due to the extensiveness of the ZetaBoards CSS. I saw Reid and Dan's theme generator once, and it was amazing, but it took a lot of effort to create something so extensive that would probably be over-abused to create themes that don't look so good. Theme generators are nice for beginners, but it's still good to have a little CSS knowledge when using one so you can understand different things and design knowledge is generally recommended when creating a theme so you can make it look legit. If I remember correctly a lot of people were creating unfinished skins and skins that just didn't look so good with the InvisionFree skin generators and they released them for public use and they ended up getting a lot of negative criticism. Learning HTML and CSS can be complicated for a lot of people, but for most people it appears to be the easiest languages to learn. Using tools already available to you can help you with the coding process of a theme; I for example use Firebug, ColorZilla and the browser find (Ctrl F) feature every time I code a theme. |

Anyone that can code a theme without using CTRL F is a saint.

I like the idea of a theme generator. However, it is extremely difficult to make a theme editor that is flexible enough to let you do what you want and yet still more simple than just editing CSS. In the end, no matter how perfect a theme generator is, there will be a group of people who can make higher quality themes by hand. Most people buy art for their home rather than attempting to make their own. |
