Let's talk fashion :P

My friend was looking at a watch recently, in the price range of $100-$300. Some people think that's too little to spend on a watch, but for my friend, it suited his purposes. Another friend was looking for a suit, for probably no more than $200, but at one store, couldn't find a suit cheaper than $700. It was absurd, and he ended up buying it elsewhere.

I'm curious. What do you consider pieces of clothing that you should really invest into? What's the most you'd ever pay for a piece of clothing?

I really don't think of brand names to be all that. In fact, I couldn't care less about brand names. Anything that looks good to me, isn't too pricey, and wearable, is good enough for me.

In regards to your buddy's watch, $100 to $300 is just perfect. If it looks good and suits his purpose, he should go for it. Besides, how does one normally distinguish $300 watch to a $700 one? Given that the watch looks good, of course. No one's going to be like "Pft, look at that $300 watch; what a noob." by simply looking at it. It's like posting a picture of a strand of your hair on the internet, and someone anonymous says "That's Nivexonix hair!".

amirite?

But I guess it all comes down to a pride-feeling for most people who decide to go for the more expensive option. Societal norms, eh?

Do people still wear watches?

I thought everyone just consulted their cell phone now. ^_^

For a suit, it depends on age/growth. There's no reason to invest in a fancy suit if you're going to outgrow it. I'm just now building a suit/dress clothes collection for use at work and interviews. And I usually wait for department store sales to buy them, so I can spend less than $200.

As for watches, I usually only buy those with Christmas money or something, not a big fan :P

To be fair, it's faster to use a watch. :r

I just buy my clothes at the supermarket for the most part. Can't afford even high street brands tbh, nor am I fussed, my Supermarket jeans are better quality! I'd only consider forking out more on shoes to be honest. You can always mend or customise clothes anyway, and if they're cheap, you wont feel as bed if you ruin them! I wouldn't pay more than equiv of $50 for a watch. :| But I'm cheap. I have a charm bracelet with a watch bit on that cost me £1.99. :') Prefer actual watches though.

I feel it's better to have one good quality piece then multiple lesser quality ones. Thus I tend to spend a little more for something I really love and just stick with that. Instead of buying three tee shirts I'll spend a little more and get one really nice one. Generally a better quality item holds up better, lasts longer and I don't have to replace it so much... or at least that is my opinion. [1]:P

I think You won't want me to be Your boyfriend then

Without a watch I am like I would be without my hand. I am wearing a watch all the time, my one is a simple Casio.

As for cellphones this object is the only one object that I am NOT taking anywhere, and most of time it is off. I hate with a passion cellphones, and I have my one only because I was forced to have one. This is why most of times it is off. Of course I am not using it at all. For me better is going to a friend that is living in the next city and hear that he isn't in home or he is busy and may not talk with me than to call him if he is in home or if he isn't busy. This is known as "Old Polish hospitality" - going to people without asking if they have the mood or time to see me. It is always better to go to a people and see him/her using own eyes than to call him/her.

As for a suit, it depends if he will be using it once per year during funeral, or maybe more often. I myself hate jeans even more than cellphones, and I am walking only with trousers/pants from a suit. Therefore I would suggest buying really the cheapest ones or something "that looks like a suit".

The most I've ever "invested" in clothing was $50 for a hoodie, I think. A super awesome videogame themed one, mind you, not a generic one with an expensive logo.

I always wear a watch. I hate using my cell phone to keep the time. It's just too annoying for me.

I'm sort of similar. I've put out a bit for dress shirts and for a couple pair of pants. I am willing to put out money on cheap clothes though, as some t-shirts I have cost less than $3 and people loved them :D One of my favorites is a Superman shirt I got, which was less than $3 :P

Those are pretty cool, to be honest. Generic hoodies are boring. I'd probably be willing to spend money on something like that :r

I hate spending money on clothes. I don't like to pay more than $10 for a shirt. I try to pay no more than $20 for a pair of jeans (Although I went for $30 last time). A good quality sweater, I might pay $50 for (but I haven't got one for a very long time, because I have so many). For a winter jacket, I'd like to pay no more than $100, although I have gotten a $200 jacket before.

Shoes, I'll invest no more than $90. But that's only because shoes fall apart very quickly for me. $80 shoes last the same amount of time as $20 shoes. But I opt for the $80 pair due to a much higher quality, and comfort. And face it, you wear your shoes everywhere, they might as well be comfortable. If I was one who took very excellent care of footware, I'd be willing to pay a lot more for shoes.

And a suit, since I don't use very often, I'd probably be willing to pay $300 for a very nice one which suits my needs. It would probably be a nice enough quality to last the rest of my life, so I don't see a problem with that.

But in general? I just wait for christmas for clothes. I very rarely buy clothes. I t works for me.
