I am getting a lot of unwanted users on my forum who sign up and go through all the hoops just to post hundreds of spam over night. I have turned on all the protection features and have banned all their users and IPs but it keeps happening. Is there a way I can add a question to the registration process (or a couple of questions) that are industry specific and the spammer wouldn't know the answer to so I can get rid of the unwanted users? Also are any of these things possible? 1) A way of making new users limit to 2 posts per day 2) A way of limiting all users to 10 original posts per day 3) A way to disable urls in posts 4) A way to get notified when new users sign up (this used to be a feature but got removed) :-/ 5) Any other way of reducing spam???? I know about Admin approval but I really don't have the time for that unfortunately and I have many users added every day, it would be a nightmare to upkeep. Good users would suffer because of this. Thank you |

Hi trezaei, I apologize for the delay in responding - it has indeed been a busy holiday season for us. Have you enabled the CAPTCHA feature on your board to help prevent spam? It displays a random generated image of numbers and letters that a user must copy before being able to register. You can switch the system on in the AdminCP - select Preferences from the menu and open the Security section. The very last option Enable additional protection against spambots? will allow you to enable the system. Limiting users to a certain number of posts/topics each day is currently not possible with ZetaBoards. You can however suggest this as a feature by submitting it to the Feedback & Surveys section of the AdminCP. You can 'disable' URL's in posts by filtering out specific domains - for example, if a spambot was continuously posting links to a website called www.spam.com, you could add a filter which would replace www.spam.com with a word (such as Filtered) of your choice anytime it is posted on your board. You can find more information on word filters for ZetaBoards here. As for being notified about new registrations, you can enable Admin Digest on your board which will automatically send you a personal message each day with statistics on new registrations and name change requests from members. You can enable this feature in the AdminCP Controls section of the AdminCP. If you'd like, you can submit a Support Ticket from your AdminCP and we can take a closer look at your forum to see if there is anything causing the increased level of spam. Let us know if you'd like any further information on what I've posted above, or if you have any more questions. ![]() Liam |
