Well, me and a friend cant decide which of the two processors we have in mind would be worth the money.

The AMD Athlon64 4000 Clawhammer or the AMD AthlonX2 3800.

We realize the price difference, we're just wondering what's worth it for the money type thing. Then the other problem is what's the best MoBo depending on which Processor we get.

What do you guys think?

The 64 3200+ is ment to be good. But if your choising between those two....I couldn't really say, AMD AthlonX2 3800?

It depends. What would your friend be doing? A lot of multitasking, encoding, general tasks etc or some serious gaming? Also both processors are compatible with any socket 939 board that can run the FX series.

I'd recommend the EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra.

I know my 3500+ Venice is running insanely fine and I'm sure would be worth it instead of having to pay the price of one of the models you listed :)

The 4000+ San Diego is better for gaming. But the dual core X2 performs better if you want to game AND video render at the same time.

Well, I believe he'd be doing alot of gaming. I'm not sure too much, as this is his first personal computer.

If its mainly gaming go with the single core. If he wants to do a bunch of other stuff with his PC as well I'd go with the dual core. Also as Ross said I would consider dropping down to a cheaper processor from the same product families and spend the money elswhere, like a better video card.
