I came on here to post about my z13 board too. I'm not getting that load error, but for the last couple of days I've been experiencing a very long load time on my board. Click the button to post a topic, and it get's stuck loading.

This issue restarted for me this morning after being rectified the last time. I'm on PlusNet - whatever you did to fix it before, please do it again!

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

Firefox users, you may find that these instructions will help resolve the problem:

  • Open Firefox and in the address bar type about:config
  • You will be cautioned when editing configuration files. Select the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button to continue.
  • Entering encoding into the filter text area to narrow down your list of options.
  • Double click the network.http.accept-encoding option.
  • Edit the value of this option to reflect true
Try navigating to your board to see if the content encoding issue has been resolved.

How bizarre! That does work. Is it a temporary fix? I mean it can't be browser-related if it's happening only to PlusNet users. And...would you happen to know what that is in Opera? :$ Thank you, either way!

Regrettably, I know very little about content encoding errors. I will continue to research answers to your questions, but if anyone else who understands them more could chime in that would be fantastic.

In this case, Google will be our friend.

I tried the value for the network.http.accept-coding option that you suggested Ryan, and now all the layouts of every website I try to access refuses to load correctly, and z13 still doesn't work for me, I'm afraid. Does anyone know the original value? Or how to reset it?

The default value was gzip, deflate. :3 I switched mine back because otherwise I couldn't view gmail in standard view. I hope they'll be able to fix it properly again like it seemed to have been last time.

That's too bad. I was hopeful I was getting close to something useful. Back to the drawing board.

Hi I mean paying for ad removal not upgrade sorry, misuse of words.

Well both my boards are down again. It's not Plusnet, they're a branch of BT, so not an ISP like TalkTalk or any other, and they're not related to Easynet.

I have members from UK and outside UK and they too are getting the encoding error. It was fixed briefly about a week after posting in this thread, but they've been down now since about the 20th Feb.

I did have the content of both boards originally on my vBulletin forum but it was getting a bit overloaded so chose invisionfree as I like Invision boards as they're easy for members to use and navigate.

The url of my boards are:

http://z13.invisionfree.com/50plusfriends/index.php?act=idx
Error occurs here when you try to post, index and thread pages seem to work ok.

http://z13.invisionfree.com/50Plus_Book_Club/index.php?act=idx
Error on all pages including index.php

The problem has nothing to do with your browser, so people should not go into their browser config files to amend them, or they will just mess up their browser and have to uninstall it and reinstall it. And neither has it anything to do with any ISP.

The problem is actually a bug in invisionfree's php code.

If invisionfree uses compression to zip outgoing html, which is supported by most browsers, then the error page happens because a php notice gets added to the top of the page.

Normally, a PHP fatal error would not send any data, just the error. In this case, the problem is just a notice-level error, so the HTML output is still sent, and somehow the notice text is not being compressed.

It's been like this for almost a week now, I was just wondering if there was any update on getting it fixed. Thanks!

I'm sorry to double post, but a week later and this is still a problem - it's now been a fortnight, and I would really like to be able to access my forums again, please. Updates? Thanks.

I dont think anyone's bothered to be honest whether we can use our boards or not.

I've lost all the members from both mine, so won't bother using invisionfree again.

Obviously they can't find the bug and rectify it.

I asked for an update on the situation and have yet to know how things are progressing, if at all. Not everyone here can fully look into or fix this error. I can't nor can any other member of staff except Brandon, Reid, and possibly Brian. I apologise for the inconvenience but if there was more I could do to help this situation I would. Alas, the most I and others can do is pass on information to those who can possibly fix the issue and if we get one, pass on an update to board owners on the progress of the situation. It's not a case all the staff here don't care, but that there's only so much we can do.
