I'm very excited to announce, that I've done something extra cool in CSS for IF v1.3 for the advanced skinners. As you know, PWND! and I have been working on all the cool tricks we can using only CSS to make skins better. Tomorrow sometime I will be posting an example of, and a documention of how to have a gradient on both left, right, and bottom of the tableborder that can work with all lengths of forums, and retain the darkrow2 if needed. Essentially, the new grad areas are: .tableborder (left) .tableborder (right) .tableborder (bottom) and you keep: .maintitle .darkrow2 This, when perfected, will allow you to "wrap around" your maintitle and connect it to a flipped version of itself, to appear to "contain" the forum list inside an object. I'm very excited to see what some of the good skinners can do with our infomration - I think skins just opened up to step it up a notch just before IF2 comes out. I can assure you, we'll find all the coolest tricks for that one as well. Oh yeah, and this hack is all CSS so it loads incredibly fast. Expect a documentation tomorrow. Thanks Trank for asking me to find a solution for this - the more you guys ask what I can find, the more I can find it! |

I'm suprised this doesn't require Javascript to make new CSS classes... |

It will, I already developed a CSS only version of this a while ago that I told Nicola about and planned on using on my skin after Revolutions. Prismatic and I were working on a javascript version as well, based off the 3pc mt script idea. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the idea though, it will open up new doors. ![]() EDIT: When Revolutions releases I have to write a bit of documentation so others can use some of the tricks used in it, including javascript, HTML, and CSS. So it seems more than a few techniques will develop before IF2. |

It's good to know minds are pushing the boundaries of skinning. ![]() I'll be *trying* to use these techniques.

Heh. I was thinking that you could have the entire forum surrounded by an orb, but it would be hard to pull off, and probably fixed size. Still, would be funky. |

Wouldn't work for categories, but you could put the entire board in one if that's what you mean, and it wouldn't be hard at all except you wouldn't be able to keep gradients and such in the boards. I think it would just look too odd. |

No, I meant for categories. I'm pretty sure it could be done, it would just be hard.

Categories... no it's a mathmatical impossiblity. After about 6-7 boards in a category the orb could not fit on the screen. Categories are just too rectangular for that to function. |

As I said, it would probably require fixed categories, i.e., only 1/2. And it would probably work fine with that number. However, this is where you start blurring the line between a skin and graphics. ![]() Of course, it would probably be easier/be able to cover more if you made the board width really thin.. |

PWND!, i don't think it'd be possible to do it in the catagories for a publically released skin, because there catagory length varies and i don't think circles are easy to stretch to the correct length. The only way i think it'd be possible is if you put the catagories in a frame, so they're fixed to a certain width and then a scrollbar appears. EDIT: just saw that you said to have fixed catagories. ![]() Thanks sprjrx (Did i get it right this time, i havn't looked again. :P), i'll certainly use this when it's done, i remember asking if this was possible in the staff lounge and everyone said it was not, so you sir are a legend.

It does not require fixed categories to work, but I think I'll have to do a JS so that it only shows on the index page, everything is glitchy. Also, I may pre-release this to Zeus so that he can properly rape it, then I'll make a guide on how he did it

I was thinking about that orb around the forums idea. Its weird, but wouldnt that work if you just made one big orb, and made it into a border, by cutting it into sections, like the top curve, the part that stretches, and the bottom curve? You know, like on big border to surround the forums. |
