Oh my goodness, I've gotten straight A's since 1st grade and I haven't gotten a dime. I'm motivated by the prospect of going to college and getting a sweet job and thus being able to support myself and my future family. (assuming I get one)

I agree with lord_carbo and Juano on this one. Congratulations for getting straight A's though =)

I've got straight A's. Whooooooooo! Now I'm gonna get $2000 from my parents and my aunt ^_^

Why should you be rewarded, especially such a huge amount, for something that you should be doing in the first place?

I find it sad that people feel others have to be motivated by money to get good grades. No offense to your aunt and mother, but I think they are being a tad rediculous.

It is not always so easy to obtain these grades for some people, and since you do not know the situation, you can't determine what is appropriate and is what is not for good grade rewards.

For God's sake, don't ruin a thread meant to congratulate someone. The reward is irrelevent regardless. It's the accomplishment that counts, and what is important is the accomplishment. The reward is entirely up to those involved.

The fact that he did get all straight A's proves that he can, therefore there is no real reason as to why he shouldn't. I highly doubt he has to study that hard to get them because someone getting bribed with that much money, in theory, is probably around the middle school area, and in the middle school area, as long as you pay attention during class and do the work you should be doing, you are garunteed at least a B+. Getting from a B+ to a straight A really isn't much a difference.

And about the focus thing, this is coming from someone with ADD. Not severe, but I do have it.

Well .. if you can get straight A's with no strain then why shouldn't he get the money .. he might as well.

I've known people here who want to get them so badly, one poor girl ended up in a hospital from studying too much.
I pity these people.

You don't know any of this for fact. This particular person may have a lot of trouble in school. They may have worked their butt off for this.

Why must we even discuss this? A debate over whether or not someone's reward for grades was fitting? Who cares what they get in return?

Congrats on the A's :)

And in reality, $2000 doesnt go way to far, It probably took him many extra hours of studying, thus earning this reward.

Well typically the topic revolved around the reward that teen prodigy was getting for getting all A's, and I brought up that being bribed for good grades just isn't good. I congratulate him/her for the good grades, honestly, but I just don't like the idea of using bribery so someone will get good grades, especially to the large extent of $2000.

They could of worked their butt off, but the point is that they should be working to get at least decent grades (like B's) in the first place. The fact that bribery was involved probably proves that he/she was getting bad grades, or else their mom and aunt wouldn't go as low as to bribe them. For someone to go from possibly bad grades to straight A's was probably just because they didn't care about school before hand. This whole thing only proves that most students have the capability but just don't care so much to apply it.

Since you're staff, I'll keep that in mind. Oh wait. :/

I'll just shut up now, I don't want to get someone else's topic closed. ^_^

Wow, I see most people are against this. For your information, it's really RM2000 (RM3.76= $1). And another thing, I'm one of the top students even though I like to play around sometimes. ^_^ It wouldn't exactly be considered a bribe since everyone holds good grades in high-esteem and even the school itself gives out rewards for good results :o But that's Malaysia for you ;)
