Preface: After a long hiatus I needed some sort of 'experiment' to get back to grips with coding. The following code required the use of plain JavaScript (no use of jQuery) and PHP (with MySQL) and the object itself was quite a challenge so I was looking forward to it. I've literally just finished testing this, and after roughly 4 days it is now finished. It won't be useful for all of you, but it should be for some of you. Description: This modification does not need to be added to forums. It's a browser modification for the user, so after installation it only changes your experience, no one else's. So what does this modification do, you may ask? Well, I'm hoping you are familiar with the Google Chrome new tab page. If you're not, it basically shows screenshots of your 8 most visited webpages and the option to see your recently closed webpages. Now this modification, named Forum Hub records (in the background) information on the ZetaBoard forums that you visit. The main webpage, Forum Hub is similar to the Google Chrome new tab page, but of course only shows these ZetaBoards forums! Why is this useful? Well if you've ever browsed forums and wanted to come back to it later but you've forgotten what it was called, well just check your recently visited forums. Visit a specific forum multiple times? Well it will be in your most visited list for easy access! Not only this but they each contain screenshots to make it all look a lot nicer .How does it work? Right, as I said this is a user modification, not a forum modification. First of all if you are using Firefox you must install Greasemonkey, and if you use Google Chrome you must install Tampermonkey. These add-ons/ extensions allow the browser to run script files when you view webpages - this is what records the websites you go on. Next check your add-on/extension manager to make sure that Grease/Tampermonkey is now enabled (they are not always enabled automatically). Then download the Forum Hub script here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/136866 . Just click install in the top right corner and follow the on-screen prompts. You're done! You have now installed the Forum Hub script for yourself/ Now go to http://hub.zetabin.com . This is the 'chrome new-tab page' - or so it will be once you've registered and logged in. Check the screenshots below if you don't believe me! Is it intrusive? No! Your forum browsing experience is no different. There is no change on the forums you visit at all. However, if you have installed the add-on/extension and have not logged into Forum Hub, there will be a message on the forum at the top (not intrusive) telling you to login otherwise your forum browsing will not be recorded. Notes: I hope this is somewhat useful for some of you users. If you're not sure whether this is for you, just try it out and you can delete it afterwards if you're not interested. Screenshots: ![]()
