I decided to give Ubuntu a try a week ago and see how it compares to Debian. My conclusion? I absolutely love Ubuntu. The absence of a root account was a bit strange at first but I got over it. The amount of documentation available is also astounding. And unlike Debian which used 200MB+ memory idle I've got Ubuntu at 80MB+. Then again I never fiddled with Debian's services.

I also prefer Ubuntu's ease of installation, it autodetects a lot more hardware than Debian did. The standard install also comes with a well chosen set of apps. However I still cannot get the ATI driver working right (couldn't get it on Debian either). Thats the one thing I liked about Fedora Core 3, it got the display drivers working off the bat.

In other words I'm very pleased with Ubuntu and wish I had tried it sooner.

Ya, I've used it on my desktop. Quite nice. I've tried it on my laptop, disaster XD
I'm building a new gaming rig (- the 400 dollar vid cards) and my old computer is going to be a linux box I'm going to use for myself for random things.
