First let me say Hello. This is my first time looking into configuring a Forum. I have a Mainframe Transaction Based Systems background. I am familiar with all sorts of platforms but never had the need to learn java. Used XML which is similar to HTML and have a familiarity with a few scripting languages. Yes I have designed plenty of User Screen and even Web Pages to allow Internal Intra Net access to various forms of Internal (business) Communications and Help Desk Screens etc.. I've designed Internet webpages for friends many years ago (some simple forms) mainly click here to contact us type of thing. However here is the thing I had to retire 10 years ago due to health issues. So here I am an older Biddy just trying to dust off the cobwebs and sort a few things out. Our forum was configured by a young man who helped us out and we can't get hold of him. Form having a look we have used the System Basic to Setp up the Web Pages and all the Forum Catergories and the Admin, Mods and User profiles. So we are basically up and running. I have been able to play with the choose your option style configurations, settings and permissions. All that is fine. What is the problem is there is a Chat button that has been created and a "Who is Chatting" button as well. Never having programmed Screens for a Forum before and not having used Java. Not even sure where are the source code files located? I assume all is stored on the Host Server. I assume you provide us with a Basic Product and if we desire to add some extra features we need to design the graphics and code the scripts to run them oursleves? Are there any scripts out there others have developed we can use and alter for our own forum? Is there any kind of macro scripting programmes that we can access to develop the Button Functions for us like in Access or Excel? Sorry if I'm asking too many silly questions. I'm trying to get through reading the documentation. Well you know how we programmers feel about having to read the manual. Any help would be grately appreciated. Many thanks Mel OK Finally found some INFO on Chatroom Boxes UNDER Shoutboxes . Not much but it's a start. Now to work on this new info with the forum owner. Any answers to some of my other questions would still be appreciated. I see you have a User Problem Log System for Support Issues. SupportTicket If you have read this and have nothing to contribute then please just give me a reply to say G'day. I don't bite (much ). Thanks a head of time. Firstly, Java and JavaScript aren't the same thing. JavaScript is what you'll want to know if you want to get into scripting for InvisionFree. InvisionFree is honestly old and outdated software, while ZetaBoards is more new and updated, but it still lacks total devotion. The custom HTML and JavaScript is stored in the Board Wrappers and the CSS is stored in the Manage Style Sheets. The resources available in the InvisionFree Support & Resources category are available to all InvisionFree board owners of this network. |

Thanks for the reply Cory. Meanwhile I have worked out what the problem may be and sent a Support Ticket to verify and see what changes I need to make. It's been a steep learning curve to get back to thinking like a programmer these past few days after basically 10 years not working in the computing industry. I noticed that it was a Script language like HTML (or what used to be called XML in my day) and Perl. So we can upgrade to Zeta? For now if we can just sort out the Chatbox then the forum can function for a while without any problems. So far we have ironed out some configurations and looking at changing a some access issues. When I retired I had promised myself I would not go back and do this and here I am. When I was young it was totally easy but now my brain don't take things in as quickly. No matter I'm in no rush these days. |

On your InvisionFree board you can use the markup language, HTML, the style sheet language, CSS, and the client-side scripting language, JavaScript. The Convert to ZetaBoards option is always available in the Admin CP. |
