I used to do carved lines as bread & butter in my designs but I just got back to photoshop in couple of years and forgot how to do it

I remember that you draw a line with the pen tool, duplicate it and move it one pixel down,
then i forgot the blending options & when to merge

does anyone remember or know how to do this?

I'm not sure what you mean though. I think I used this technique as well, but do you have any examples?
