I'm hoping this is the right forum to post this sort of thing, but anyway... How did you come across invisionfree? As for me, well, it was sort of strange. Back in the early 2000s I was running a Megaman based forum that was based around the Megaman Battle Network games. The forum was doing well, and we had quite a few active members, but for some reason it really felt lacking to me. The service I was using is another well known one out there, but at the time the features were very limiting, I wasn't able to do everything I wanted, and I was simply starting to get tired of it. That was when I heard about invisionfree. At the time invisionfree had already been out for about a year, but not too many people seemed to know about it at the time. Although I decided to leave my Megaman forum on the original service, I decided to open up a brand new gaming forum with invisionfree instead. Originally I was going to use the older service once again for the new forum, but I figured this would be my perfect chance to try out something new. I remember some of my friends actually trying to talk me out of using invisionfree at first. They said that it would be better to stay with something I was used to, instead of jumping ship for something new that may not be nearly as good. Well, I ignored my friends and did it anyway. I've never regretted it. Thanks to invisionfree, my forums took off. Later on I moved my Megaman forum over to IF as well, and that was when it really picked up in popularity. I remember that it became so well known for awhile, I would visit other forums and see that they had ripped coding directly from my site. The bad news was, they were stealing from me, but the good news was that they didn't know how to edit HTML, and my website's banner stayed on their page with a link back to me. Anyway, after seeing all of the features IF offered for themselves; my friends came around, and in the end they saw that I had done the right thing. Ever since that day I've been a user of invisionfree, and I have always looked back on them early days with fond memories. So, what about you guys? How did you find it/what are your memories of first using it? |

In 2006, I started my first InvisionFree forum. I had been using a forum system where your board would expire if there was no new posts for 30 days. It had some nice features, like a chat room, but that was pretty worthless because ithe chatroom would kick you out after 5 minutes! Who on earth is done chatting in 5 minutes? I became part of another community that was using InvisionFree and I found out that along with being a free service, your board would never get closed for inactivity, so I moved shop and never looked back.It took me a while to learn the ins and outs of the ACP, but I only blew up my board once where it was so bad that I had to be rescued by the support team, so I think I did pretty well. I was always charmed that you could actually add customizations and make your board function as you needed. Additionally, the support community was friendly and willing to help make codes and answer my questions, no matter how noobish they were.

Wow, they actually deleted your forum if there were no posts after 30 days? That's a pretty messed up system if you ask me... But yeah, I also loved the fact that you could customize the HTML and CSS as well. While the older service I was using NOW includes these features (I was looking at it the other day), it still has some issues that keep me from ever going back there. For one they actually make you pay monthly to use your own domain name.

Ya, it was outrageous. I agree. But I didn't know there was anything better at the time. |

Really, I can't remember how I actually stumbled upon invisionfree though. I remember I was actually using my grandpa's computer (since I didn't have one at home at the time), and I do remember seeing other forums that used it. I'm thinking that I came across a Sonic fan forum on Sonic Team's official message board, but I can't completely remember. Still I remember opening up the Admin CP and being excited after seeing all of the options it provided you with! I could have forums, INSIDE OF FORUMS! |

That's a really good question and the answer is, I can't remember. I remember I was looking for something other than phpBB and obviously just came across IF via a search engine I suppose. IF was great as a starter board, but give me zetaboards over IF any day now. Far superior in my humble opinion.

I had one a fourm called 'Bullzeye' and now it is gone after 30 days. 'Stegz', 'Land Before Time' and 'Gang of Five' are active. |

About a year ago i joined a social game called clash of clans. My clan that i joined told me to join their newly set up forum on zetaboards so i obliged. As first I started out as a normal member but then i got promoted and i thought my birthday had come early. About a month ago, i was promoted to admin as some noob admin who runs it didn't know how to edit group title colours so i helped him. From then on i added mods and themes and plan to try my own mod soon. |

I was invited to a forum by a friend in 2008. The guy who owned it explained to me about invisionfree and how easy it was to make a site with it, so I tried making my own just to see how it worked. I got very interested in how skinning the forums worked, and that really drew me in. Then later, I was promoted on that original site (which is now upgraded to zetaboards), and I'm learning even more.

Back in 2006, forums were really really popular. There was no Twitter, Instagram or Facebook back then (it was still in its college days)... So back then forums were the social media... Also smartphones weren't a thing.. Anyways, InvisionFree was *the* place to go if you wanted a free forum. I used to play Runescape a lot and every single clan had it. So I created my own forum. I abandoned it back in 2007 and to my surprise it's still online. I hope it remains online forever. Eventually I returned to forums in 2010... on another free forum service. I got into "modding" and "creating skins"... which taught me HTML4, CSS2 and Javascript/jQuery. Nowadays I'm a Front-End Web Developer/Mobile Aps Developer so I do this for a living... but if it wasn't for skinning or free forums, I don't know where I would be today... Time goes by so fast. It really does. Edited by Rarez, Sep 26 2015, 01:15 PM.
