It's a little temperamental though - if you spam 5 successive shouts, the server comes back with the error message at different times and therefore they can be queued in the wrong order. But as long as you're leaving a little delay between your shouts (i.e posting something more than 2 characters) it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

"PLES RING IF AN RNSER IS REQIRD."

The downsides to a queue are that a conversation may have moved on by the time all your shouts get through and you might change your mind about what you want to say but have to wait (literally) a minute for your five messages to get through before you can do another. :tut: Or one of your messages was cut off by the server for being too long and now it's a bit odd as a rant.

And it is a shoutbox, not a paragraph-spewer, which is why I liked the idea of giving people the option to retrieve their lost last shout but not necessarily shoving it through, too. Of course, on most communities five messages in a minute will almost always be fine to do without much changing at all.

Good work putting that together, Viral. :) (And getting rid of that awful alert is always a blessing!)

Just updated the code so it now allows you to remove shouts from the queue :P .

Code:

<script type="text/JavaScript" src="http://z5.ifrm.com/30052/123/0/f5288313/shout_flood.js"></script>

Quite interesting code, indeed. If only it would save the shouts upon refreshing the page, but that's probably beyond what a JS can do.

Definitely possible with cookies - but I'll let someone else do that if they want as I don't have much time right now :< .
