perhaps in near future, boards would replace the captcha with a security pattern that you activate using your mouse or stylus or finger depending on the type of device you are using

I hate them, some of the words you just cannot read, you like have to rip your eyes out twist them around, smack em with hammer and then you have a hope

The reason why they're so difficult to read is to prevent bots, as Ferby said, would these actually work as well?

the pattern lock option would be besides the captcha box and would suit mobile users. almost like that child's toy, "simon says" where you follow the light pattern.
