I thought this would be a good idea to implement given the about of spammers we, as a network, receive. Google to the rescue! http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/are-you-robot-introducing-no-captcha.html |

We have captcha, and "bots" are being caught by it. Our problem is more often real-people spammers who are paid pennies for hundreds of posts. Humans will always be able to get past a captcha. That's the point. |

Will we receive this new update? Or are we sticking with the older version? |

I think the point is it would be better to use the new API as opposed to the current one we're using which is more invasive for us 'humans'. |

We are not currently using reCaptcha for our captcha. The original post said "given the about of spammers we, as a network" - which is what I addressed. This or the other won't block the kinds of spammers we have. Most of ZetaBoards' bot blocking is done apart from the captcha, but it's an option for users who like having a captcha around. I don't see a difference in amount of spam between boards who use it and those who don't because no captcha is purposed to stop humans from being jerks. That said, the captcha we do have as an option is Solve Media which is also a revenue stream. reCaptcha is not, nifty as this new thing is. Ads pay the bills. (etc. etc.) Edited by Nicolas, Dec 3 2014, 10:59 PM.

It may be a revenue stream, but just from what I've seen, it's a really bad CAPTCHA service. I don't think I've ever been given a different phrase to type in - it's always the same thing. |

From conversations I've had about similar concerns, it seems that it determines how frequently you accurately input the correct code and then things get more difficult for you if you become more suspicious. They're not just using the user's input to determine if they're a bot or not. Similarly, most of our defences against bots are not reliant on captcha. |
