Isn't there an update on this problem? The announcement referred to was 5 days ago. Also what is happening to resolve the Cloudflare 520/522 errors that keep occuring. Even a simple FAQ covering things such as: - Dont' delete a custom url in Admin CP to try and rectify things. It won't work and you won't be able to add it back at the moment - How to set up name server A records for a board - How to ask for domain name to be added to the Cloudflare name servers - What the issues are that cause the Cloudflare 520 & 522 errors - Estimates on delivery of solutions for the various issues. A simple post on the current state of play would help board admins enormously and based on my experience will generate goodwill even if the news is not always good. |

I'll echo wasntbtf's comment. There's partial information scattered all over this forum, none of it centralized, and you end up having to read 30+ pages of posts to learn anything. It's NOT ZetaBoards fault, we know that, but some of us aren't even sure what we're supposed to be doing and there's no hint of an end in sight. I haven't anything to tell members because I don't really know anything myself other than "they're working on it...". I appreciate the fact that I know you are. |

This is something that has been brought up to the staff. Unfortunately, we're not at a point where we have a lot of that information. CloudFlare is something we're just heading into and we don't know what will be possible with them in the long term - our developer is in discussions with them to see what might be the best solution for our service and your communities. We'll try to have a sort of generic FAQ available shortly, but the other problem becomes effectively disseminating that information to board admin, most of whom do not regularly frequent this board or follow us on Twitter/Facebook. |

Which makes me wonder about the wisdom of the sudden switch to Cloudfare - any board owner who has a custom domain has basically seen their board immobilised, with no way of finding out why, or how to rectify it unless they visit this board. I totally get why such drastic measures were taken, and truly hope it works out, but I fear that it just might have done more damage to the overall population than it has fixed. Fingers are crossed, but I fear my board will soon be gone after all this, which is a real shame as I don't think there are any better free forum hosting services out there. |

Right. Brandon can always send a bulk email when services are up and stabilized and let forum owners know what's happening. I checked in with him about using existing tools to find all boards with custom domains and reach out to them directly, which is an option he is already exploring as well. If we didn't make the switch and allowed the attack to keep us on our knees, even a mass email would not be an option. This was the best course and I think you know that.

Nicholas, I managed to resolve most of the issues for our board and to find out about the Cloudflare errors. (which fortunately seem to have gone away). The solutions I have had for avoiding the problems CNAME records cause some people, re-targetting the A records etc I've posted on support tickets in some detail. If you want somebody to draft up a FAQ happy to help out based around my post of a few days ago. If that gives somebody more time to work on the problem of adding a custom url I reckon that is a reasonable "quid pro quo". You could at least get that posted out to the board admins and pinned on the support forum. Grahame. |
