I'm looking for a code that would create another profile page which only selected users would have that would display their character's avatar, stats, etc. I don't want profile fields, I'm looking for another profile page.

Thanks! :D

Would you rather use a topic template or the flexible form script?

Actually, you gave me an idea, Quozzo. Users could create their own character profile by filling out a topic template or using the flexible form script and the topic would be restyled to look exactly like the character profile layout shown above. It would basically work similar to my ZetaBoards integrated chatroom code, where it uses a topic instead of a webpage.
I was just thinking that the info could be grabbed by AJAX if the profile was viewed like another tab. So the URL would be something like

http://support.zathyus.com/profile/2070103/#!RPG (or even a dedicated webpage using the webpage creator) and using `location.hash` would determine if they're looking at the "profile page". If they are then it would grab the info from the post using AJAX.

The information could then be set by clicking a link in the profile which would open (create) a form to post/edit the contents into the hidden topic.

It's quit confusing so if you want me to explain further just let me know, but it sounds like you've got it ;)

Wouldn't it be better to use profile fields if you were to use the profile page anyways? I was originally thinking of something along the lines of what you are thinking, but for a webpage, like this: /pages/RPG/?id=PROFILE_ID

That would link from the profile page itself, so the profile ID would automatically be inserted into the webpage URL, split from the /profile/ URL.

Though, now that we're talking about using the default profile through the use of having extra parameters in the URL, it would require no AJAX. If '#!RPG' was present in the URL it would hide the default profile and display the character profile. You see what I mean?

You can hide profile fields from selected groups with JavaScript.

I would like everyone to be able to see it but only the users who are in a certain group can create and edit, right?

Yeah. I though the limit for profile fields, even the textarea one would limit the space available, especialy if someone gets creative with their bio.

If you're using a webpage then there's no need to use the profile field to store the info though is there? It would have a larger size in the post and the information could be retrieved via AJAX if the user wants to edit it, either through their own profile or through the website that shows it (by having a quick edit option for the author ;) ).

I do like the idea of using the profile for the RPG bios is a good idea, but there will be a small delay in the page changing from the profile to the RPG bio thingy, not a big issue but maybe one to consider. There's also the character limit too which I have no idea what it is for a profile field. You could add multiple profile fields but that just complicated things.

Are you concerned about content size limits, TDreamW101? Because if you're not, then I think using profile fields is the way to go. If you are, then maybe we should consider using topics as Quozzo is suggesting.

To deter the page transition delay Quozzo mentioned, the default and character profile can be hidden with CSS and reappear with JavaScript.

Yes. When you go to make custom profile fields, you will see a maximum number of characters allowed. I believe the textbox custom profile field allows for the most characters, although still limited.

For example: 1 line text is limited to 200 characters. For the textbox the limit is 50,000 characters.
