I'm using a "Reason for Edit" modification [Code below] for my forums, is there a way we can do it so when someone edits a topic, it sends an alert [PM] to Staff members?

Code:

<script type='text/javascript'>
var edit_reason = {
reason_required: true, // will prevent an edit without a reason
admin_exempt: true, // makes admins not have to give a reason
mod_exempt: true, // makes mods not have to give a reason
appears_without_edit_notice: false, // if true, this will appear if no edit notice is present

messages: {
reason_title: "Reason for Edit", // on the posting page, what comes before the blank
reason_post_title: "Reason", // what appears in topics below div.editby
reason_check_failed: "You must input a reason for your edit." // used if reason_required is true
}
};
</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://z3.ifrm.com/313/104/0/p380505/reason_for_edit.js'></script>

A few questions for myself or anyone who chooses to fulfill this request:
  1. What do you mean by "editing the topic?" The first post?
  2. Does the PM need to be sent to one user or multiple?

When you edit a post* sorry. So when someone edits a post, they have to input a reason why with the code above. We'd like a mass PM sent to anyone who is Staff [so multiple] to alert them of the edit.

It might be simpler to accomplish the desired effect in topic form then PM form. So when edits are made, a reply will be made to a single topic notifying the staff that the member has made an edit to their post.

Or perhaps a PM sent to a certain group.

I doubt all staff members are in one group, though.

PM to a certain group could work to be honest, it'd be preferrable if we could have it send to multiple groups but if we'd only be able to send it to one, that'd be great.

Multiple groups is possible, it would just require more AJAX. Exactly how many user groups did you want to send this message to?

We'd like to have the alerts sent to three groups.

Do you want the edit alert to apply to staff members as well, or only regular members?

Just Staff members

I think what Cory means is, do you want the alert to be sent if a staff member edits his/her post or should the alert be sent only when a member (non-staff) edits his/her post?

Oh, my bad!
Alert should be sent when a member, non-staff edits their post. ^^

I just realized that only administrators can send group PM's, so the edit alert can only be sent on a user-basis and not a group-basis.

Ah, I see. I don't suppose you'd have any idea for an alternative? Would it be possible to do it for specific people but a few of them?
