I only just saw this today, when it's worked in the past. On my site, I sometimes use copy-paste to make posts. But no matter the font, whether I use Libreoffice or notepad, when I paste I only see this: “test” I tested this on both writing programs, with lucida sans, lucida sans unicode, and Times News Roman, which are the three main fonts I use. It also seems not to like ellipses all of the sudden either. like this… see what I mean? Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? |

That program that you're using might be set to copy text in a manner that allows you to re-post it in the same program with all of the bold, italic and images as well. It probably expects you to copy it, then paste it somewhere else in the document, not to be brought to a text box on the internet. Some fancy programs are like that. Sometimes browsers will give you the option when you right click to "paste as plain text". But if it's not doing that for you there really is nothing you can do except to get a new writing program. |

That might be the case, and I'll try it to see if it works, but I use notepad and libraoffice, which is like open office, and both cause the issue. I haven't tried it with Microsoft Word, however - it's only on one computer. What gets me is that I posted before this happened, and it worked fine. It's all of the sudden that this is happening. |

Notepad should definitely not cause you that problem. It could be a setting in your Notepad or your operating settings or some kind of malfunction or virus. I bet you if you reinstalled your operating system it would fix the problem... thus something is not right. But that's a lot to go through you know? |

MS Word's quotes (the ones that lean towards the quote, not sure what it's called) usually have this issue. If you replace them with the normal Shift+2 quote (") it should be alright. There might be a way to change the quotes to the web standard ones when posting, but I'll need the unicode of the quote and ellipses. Could you upload the text file with the quotes and ellipses that cause the issue. I'll see if I could convert them on the fly with a code or two.

I'll try to, though it's doing it on everything lol. Even Microsoft word! How do I upload, and which typing program should I include, Microsoft word, Notepad, or Libreoffice? And if you wouldn't mind answering, what do you mean by the 'Shift +2 quote'? Edited by raferties, Dec 7 2015, 08:40 AM.

If you could do all three that would be awesome. If you can't upload them anywhere just put them here (where only i can see them) The shift + 2 quote is the normal quote, on UK keyboards at least. |

Ah. Here that's the @ symbol. But I've just been using two of the ' for the moment - that seems to work. and I uploaded all three to the link you provided. the Libreoffice one is quite bit, I'm afraid - it's the current thing I'm running for my site that alerted me to the problem. The others are segments from the same event. |

“text” I only seem to get the issue when viewing the preview, not when posting. If you're experiencing the issue when posting then you can use the code below to convert the text into supported characters.
There's also a code that can prevent it from showing in the preview too if you would like that as well. Edited by Quozzo, Dec 8 2015, 11:04 AM.

*reads* Thanks for the code. Quick question: where in that do I type my messages? Lol! CSS isn't exactly a language I'm too familiar with. As an aside, I have found out that Notepad++ does NOT cause the problem. Edit: *facepalms and laughs* Thank you also for pointing out to me that it doesn't actually show the glitch when I post. I finally tested it rather than just looked at the preview, and saw that yes, the quotes did come out normally. D'oh! Haha! Edited by raferties, Dec 13 2015, 09:24 PM.

I've been having this issue with preview for years, really disappointing it's never been fixed. Is there any kind of code like that that may fix that in preview also? |
