As a ZB user, I really enjoy the software but it really could use some big updates and improvements when possible. My most asked for feature is definitely mobile support, so tapatalk being utilized would be a huge welcome and my members are anxiously waiting for it. :)

In addition to my previous question, is there any information on how Tapatalk will affect JavaScript modifications? I'm assuming the worst in that they won't load at all, but if there's any information at all that would be good to have, as no doubt it will cause many codes to be rewritten.

Tapatalk is 3rd part software which pulls the data strait from ZB, so no JS will be ran :(

In that instance I would very much prefer a mobile theme, as even mobiles now can run anything a forum can throw at it. I use the Cool Mint theme for that purpose.

Hmm if that's the case, and ZB don't allow us to run PHP directly (which I know for security reasons will probably never happen) then all 3rd party modifications will be made completely redundant :(.

Tapatalk will be able to be enabled/disabled at the board level, and full mobile compatibility is something we're working toward. So not all will be lost.

That's something I'm going to be disabling by default. It seems Tapatalk is just a quick way of making ZB mobile compatible and a poor way at it.

By full mobile compatibility, you mean allowing codes to also work? If so, is that something you're working towards without the use of tapatalk, or with it?

Without the use of tapatalk. Understand that we have been working on mobile applications for the software for some time. When tapatalk approached us, this seemed like a quick way to get something out while we continued to work on other mobile solutions. Tapatalk is very basic but for many users, it should suit their needs. For others, who like their codes and more customization, they may find that tapatalk is not quite right for their needs. To that end, we have been working on other mobile solutions.

Thanks for the reply, Steven. In terms of other mobile solutions, would that be other software such as tapatalk, or further customisations to render the board more nicely for those using web browsers on their mobiles?

Also, if you have any information on what features the API may provide (or what the previous version of the API did provide) that would be very helpful.

My advice, Viral, is to continue coding and deal with the changes when they happen . . . five or ten years from now ;)

:D
The truth of this brings me pain, bahaha. The amount of time we've been asked to wait for features is in the range of years, it's absurd. Anyone looking for a forum they can actually use effectively left a long time ago for better options. I don't know how this service sustains itself when there's little incentive to stay. I love this place and I'm too lazy to go anywhere else, but that won't stop me from being observant and asking for better.

I looked it up on Google and all it means is the way developers edit the forum. So the Admin CP is an API for example. What people are asking for is more control. Most want to actually use PHP code when making a modification, that would help everything a lot. Some just want more built in options in the Admin CP. For example one of the most popular modifications is Members Online Today. Basically every forum uses it. So why not make it default with ZetaBoards instead of making users paste a JavaScript modification? JavaScript modifications slow down the forum. They need service every once in a while too.

In the end a good API for ZetaBoards would be allowing developers to use PHP code but there are many problems with it. Until you say get a software that can perfectly read written code before it is submitted to make sure people aren't abusing or just making gigantic mistakes it seems it would be hard to allow this.

Not exactly. In short, an API would provide us developers with an interface with additional methods that make things easier and new things possible.
