Hi. The members of my forum want me to set a certain "Members Only" sections of my forum so that each member has to have 10 posts before they can access the Member's Only area. I looked all around the Admin CP but couldn't find anything like this. Is there a way to do it?

The way I know how to do it is to set up two different user groups with two different forum access permissions.

First, you'll need to set up a new permissions set.
ACP -> Forum Access (in the Users & Groups category).
Make a new permission set based off your default Members one and make adjustments as you desire there.
You can call the permissions set whatever you like really.

Then make a new user group based on your default Members one, and assign it the new permissions set that you just made.

Then make the Member's Only section and set it so that the new Members Only group can access it, but not the default one. You can make it so that the default one can't read posts there or make it so they can't even see the section at all. That part's up to you and your members.

Thank you. I already knew about that, but it's a lot of work. I just need a way to set a post limit.

Quantum-locked when observed.

Forum access is based on permission sets, which almost always tied to a user's group. Gaomon274's method is the way to do it, as described in the documentation.

Quite the contrary. It is possible to implement, but you have this false notion of how it should be done, and don't want to think of other possibilities.

It tells you how to do it right in the link that Ben posted.

  • Go to your Admin CP.
  • On the left scroll down until you see Users & Groups.
  • Click the Groups link in that section.
  • You'll see Make New Group at the bottom of that page. Make sure in the drop down box you have Members selected. Then click the Make New Group button.
  • On the page that shows up after you click the button make sure at the top that the name of the new group is Members. This way nobody will know that you have them in a different group than the real Members group. All their permissions will still be the same. The only reason there is a default Members group that you can not delete or edit is because if you mess something up you could screw up a lot of stuff.
  • At the bottom of the page you will see another Make New Group button. Before you click it make sure you select what group you want your Members to be promoted to when they get to how many posts. You will see the box that says 0 in it. Change that zero to how many posts then click the button.
  • Last step make another group and call it Members. This is the group you want them to be promoted to in the previous step. (Yes step means the black dots.)
  • Now go to all the forums that you want to limit them to until they post so many times and give your first created Members group only permission to View and Read. Give that second created Members group permission to post and whatever else you want.
