It's not cheating, it's using the resources to your advantage. ;)

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. While they're reading/writing down the answers, don't you think that they'll remember it?

No, as Glitch said.

You seem to be under the impressions that schools are productive teachers in the first place. Everyhitng there is pointless, why not this?

Most of the things you learn there are pointless anyway, so it doesn't really make a difference

Most =/= All. Many people will remember. If they don't, they will when they revise for their exams.

Correction: then they will cram for their exams. Then they'll forget it all again.

Besides, why bother to remember anything when you can just search the Internet during quizzes?

Well, I disagree with that. What is the point of school? Is it:

  • Going on the Internet and search Google for the answer and learn nothing

    Or Is it:

  • Learning things without using any other resources unless instructed to?

They think that in the future you won't need to know anything, except how to look for the answers on the internet, as they think this is the future.  :ermm:

Isn't that still learning?

Learning how to use the internet, which everyone actually knows how to do. O_o And the future, is not the internet, it's the real world that counts.

By looking at the answers, aren't they learning the answers?

Not really. :ermm:

You have to the take the time to actually study.

I so agree with you.

Just using Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V isn't going to help you learn anything. Like, if it was a class centered around computers or whatever...it's understandable. A history class? That's literally giving them an answer sheet.

Agreed.

NOTE: I think I am killing myself with all this quoting...

No, I don't think so. Everything you learn at school helps you in some way. If you didn't go to kindergarten, would you be typing at the computer now? No. You wouldn't know how to read and what the "symbols" on the keys are.

(OK, I"m finished quoting, now you can have your peace back! LOL)

Yes it does, the amount of education you need to help get jobs, getting a good education opens many options to your future. If it were pointless, there wouldn't be a point in school. And there wouldn't be any school. It makes an enormous impact on your life and can determine your future. ;)

School teaches you how to pass tests, not how to be intelligent.

Fine. I don't want to see you use a calculator, a dictionary, a history book, etc.

They don't even let you use a dictionary/book on Florida's FCAT. Also they give you calculators because it's obvious you know how to add/subtract/divide/multiply. And on FCAT, they only give you their calculator, the calculator made for that specific test. And in math actually to know how to solve the problem. I mean you can still have a caculator in your hand, and not be able to solve the problem. They don't ask what's 2+2. They ask word problems/problems that you need to actually work out. So it's really nothing to 'your advantage.'

I mean, ever. Since that's technically "cheating".

Not really, still. In math, you to need actually know how to solve the problem. Let's say you don't know even how to add, so you use your calculator.

Let's say the problem is 1+ 8 x 2.

The guy adds it up and gets 17. Guess what he's wrong, because he needs to learn order of operations!

See, you need to actually learn how to solve the problem, whether it's a problem like this or a word problem. This applies to everything.
