It's not cheating, it's using the resources to your advantage.

Well, I disagree with that. What is the point of school? Is it:

  • Going on the Internet and search Google for the answer and learn nothing

    Or Is it:

  • Learning things without using any other resources unless instructed to?

Fine. I don't want to see you use a calculator, a dictionary, a history book, etc.

They don't even let you use a dictionary/book on Florida's FCAT. Also they give you calculators because it's obvious you know how to add/subtract/divide/multiply. And on FCAT, they only give you their calculator, the calculator made for that specific test. And in math actually to know how to the problem. I mean you can still have a caculator in your hand, and not be able to solve the problem. They don't ask what's 2+2. They ask word problems/problems that you need to actually work out. So it's really nothing to 'your advantage.'

I mean, ever. Since that's technically "cheating".

Not really, still. In math, you to need actually know how to solve the problem. Let's say you don't know even how to add, so you use your calculator.

Let's say the problem is 1+ 8 x 2.

The guy adds it up and gets 17. Guess what he's wrong, because he needs to learn order of operations!

See, you need to actually learn how to solve the problem, whether it's a problem like this or a word problem. This applies to everything.

Um.. 17 is the correct answer, and many advanced calculators do follow the order of operations.

Ok, take the derivatives from Calculus. All one has to do is input a function into a TI-83+ calculator, and you can find the deriative easily. He doesn't need to know how it reached it, but that's the answer.

Yeah, I messed the problem up. I meant that he got 18 an an answer. >.<

But good point, though they don't allow such calculators in my school. I mean for tests/quizzes, etc. I'm sure they wouldn't allow it for your school.

If they do, it should be modified, and the school should only provide one type of calculator for tests and quizzes, so you wouldn't get a hold of this type of cheating, as it's so easy to get answer. ;)

I did that once, but it was for an after school club and it didn't matter
I could get a PSP and cheat..that would rule..

It's wrong to assume everyone will copy. Yeah, when I sit next to my friends, we'll help each other out sometimes, but we're not gonna look at someone else's paper the whole time.

And like someone else said, yes, it's pointless. My career will be musical. Music business, managing a band, playing in a band, playing on a street corner, whatever, it will involve music, so everything now has no point.

It's not cheating, it's being treated like an open book test.

But to be honest, I'd do worse on a quiz, if I had the internet. :ermm:

When I say "copy" I mean copy off the Internet, not copy off of your friends.

Also, everybody wants to be a musician, a writer, graphic designer, or professional athlete. Very few of us will actually succeed doing that. If you don't pay attention to your education right now you'll end up as a hobo playing music on a street corner for $0.25 tips. If you do pay attention you'll get a good job regardless.

Don't worry, I pay attention, I get good grades. I don't mean I'm gonna play in a rock band and become a millionare, but I'm not gonna be some loser that spends his life doing something he hates just so he can get by, or someone who does something they hate and gets rich, I would much rather be a hobo playing for change.

Open test book is also like the internet given you to use on a test or quiz. It is the same and it is 'legalized cheating, and you're not even learning anything. ;)

At my school people still fail "open book" tests because their open book is their notes, which my classmates don't take. But really in high school, well at least mine, there is nothing of this sort.
