As a lover of tech art and most other arts. How long does it take you guys to design one? Like for example, skins, graphics, and all that sort of stuff, like within time, an hour, days, weeks, months? ^^; I've also read it can be done by more than one person. So, that's a start. ![]() Share me some of your knowledge of designing of work and through time. ![]() Spare my ignorance.

It's obviously going to depend on how much time you give it and how experienced you are. The few that I've done take a looong time because I'm new to it all really and still looking up whatever I need to. That and I can't spend much time on it, so there are really long intervals between when I can work on it. A skin design for me would consist of designing the print in GIMP (as a time limit, it's hard to say. My current one has been going on since last year, but I haven't really had much time) and then coding that skin (which is usually slightly quicker as parts can be re-used from old themes, and I have a slightly better memory for the languages than I do for navigating GIMP ). Graphics for a theme usually don't take particularly long relatively - the design style has already been thought of when designing the print, and sometimes you can use parts of the H2 (for example) for some of the buttons or what not. Yes, themes can be done together. Most of the time that consists of a designer making a print and a coder putting that into a format which people can actually use. Sometimes there'll be several designers working on a theme at once (either designing an individual part each or working together on parts). Several coders is often easier as people can take over at different times of the day without messing up previous sections so much (at least in my opinion when I helped code a theme - there are others with far more experience out there).

I won't say that I've done a lot of graphic design work, quite the opposite in fact, but I have made two graphics packs for two of my designs. For me at least, they didn't take nearly so long I feel it's partly because I design the prints first (obviously) and since I do it so rarely, I spend a lot of time looking things up again, whereas I work on the graphics pretty much straight after, so I can remember what to do; I think it's also partly because my themes have all been pretty simple/flat style. I know your style is a lot more artistic and takes a lot more time to make, but some simple shapes with the right font was all that worked for me. Sure, they're never going to be as good as yours, and sure, I'm still a noob, but for me, my statement still stands. And anyway, note the 'relatively' I used - of course they take a while, but in comparison to the whole print itself where a lot more things have to come together...

It really depends on the design. A print for something simple can come together in a day. Something more involved can take weeks or longer. The coding is another story. When I code my own designs, it takes be around two weeks working on them pretty much full-time, and really about the same to do a conversion (from zIFboards to ZetaBoards). Theres some fuzzy area there, as I don't always make a complete print and sometimes do some designing along the way while constructing the coding for the theme. A graphic set is generally a 2-3 day project for me. As -The- mentioned, a lot depends on how fluent you are in your graphic design program. Having to study out new effects that you want to accomplish can take a long time. |

It depends what the piece you're making entails. Stuff I make can take from a couple of hours to weeks, depending on how much there is to make for it and how much work needs to be put into it. |

I used to design skins usually in a few hours, I'd start with a color or color set (I used to go off of color palettes I found somewhere), design an H2, and would come up with a maintitle/h2 shape and sometimes create skins in multiple colors. I haven't designed a skin/theme or anything in years so I don't remember how long it took exactly. It took longer if I did the full graphics set, and I believe for many skins I did do a full set of matching graphics. |
