Basically, the most visited areas of the support forums are the Codes & Modifications forums. Specifically, the Zetaboards forum. Today I noticed that it was gone After a bit of looking I realized that it has been moved into the ZetaBoards Galleries forum Maybe (next time) an announcement might be in order so that an old time user, like myself, doesn't have a coronary event when he thinks the world is coming to an end around here

I'm confused of what idiot thought putting probably the biggest used section on the support board into another forum (as s sub-forum) would be a good idea. You've now made it more difficult for people (especially new users) to find what they need to and you've made the change so unnecessarily. Seems like no thought was put into it whatsoever. Or is this the route Zeta wants to take instead of fixing their servers and giving the development & leadership the forum software truly deservers and desperately needs. Maybe if they did, I wouldn't trying to be looking for a cheap Xenforo license to buy in order to get away from how down-hill it has gotten over the years. I no longer have faith that it can improve or there will be any sort of community left by the time Brandon finally does something. Edited by Ferby, Jul 11 2016, 04:05 AM.

I'm not too miffed by the move itself. Stuff is still there and still split by appropriate section, just grouped by a container section so I can't complain too much. What I am confused on was why there is/was no announcement/warning of the change. |

There has been some minor changes to the forums lately, however I THINK the Codes forums have been moved in error. We'll see about posting a summary of the changes when we're finished. Jonathan |

As Jonathan mentioned, the changes have been subtle. The staff have been discussing ways to reorder the sections on the index and combine areas that currently have less traffic. The changes you see occurred late in the evening/early in the morning and because we aren't yet done, no announcement was made. An announcement detailing changes will be made once this process is done. For instance, the decision to move Codes was only finalized last night and may not be final. It was done to be in uniform with the zIFBoards sections. The idea is rather simple: All Support in one section and All Resources in another. Originally, Jonathan is correct, Codes were still in the main index. But it seemed to be floating out in the ether while graphics and themes were in a resource specific section.
This is the very definition of a post that is rude or inflammatory towards members and/or staff. When you decide to use a more respectful tone in public, I am happy to discuss these changes and hear your constructive feedback towards improving things. Until then, I wish you the best of luck with your hunt for a Xenforo license.
Understood. As mentioned these were done late when traffic was at the lowest point and the changes are mostly subtle so we've been trying to implement them first and then make an announcement when finished. At the moment, you'll notice that the Discussion and Feedback forum has been combined into one. We are encouraging users to label their topics with the custom topic option for Software so that we know if the matter is ZB or zIF related. We have combined Programming Chat into Tech Chat. We have combined Community Creations and Graphic Showcase into Creative Showcase and made that the main section with Creative Discussion as the subsection. And then the changes you have already noticed with ZB and zIF have been made. We're currently evaluating the changes already implemented and seeing if there is any other changes we'd like to make. There were a few goals here: reduce redundancy, streamline the index, reduce the need for unnecessary sections by combining less active sections into a larger one and keep it consistent across both software. Ultimately this is a trial and error thing just like anything else. If we find this new streamlining is more of an inconvenience, we may readjust and either try another layout or revert back to the old one. It doesn't take much to make these changes so if we determine they are not helping, we can undo them rather easily. In the meantime, we welcome any constructive feedback you have or any ideas you think might improve this layout. ![]() |

Thus, my input would be to move the Codes & Modifications into it's own forum for each software versions; i.e.: Zetaboards Codes & Modifications, ZifBoards Codes & Modificaitons. These are the most active and should be easily reached. Like I mentioned, I've been here a day or two . . . and it took me a bit to realize what was where. I could see a novice entering and completely at a loss with this new layout. Thanks for taking the time to keep us informed. It wasn't my goal to start a forest fire

I agree that Ferby's reaction was a bit rude, but I wouldn't say it was completely unwarranted. Being the official support board for the entire network, most people visit this place for support, modifications, or themes. How on Earth did you ever think telling people after the boards were moved that you had moved them was a good idea? If you weren't sure of exactly where those boards were going to settle, fine. At least make an announcement ahead of time informing people that you're going to be moving things around. Or add a notice underneath the navigation stating the same, and include links to the most visited parts of the board for quick access. Or both. |

Actually, his reaction was completely unwarranted. If you disagree with something, you are free to verbalize your disagreement as Skyon Archer did respectfully within this topic. Skyon's reaction was warranted and he got his point across without insulting anyone and offered constructive criticism. We have no problem discussing things in a civil manner as I am doing right now. But there is an expected decorum that all users must follow and this is far from an unreasonable expectation. With regards to your point: In truth, announcements over layout changes are rare. We've reorganized the board index more times than even I can remember. In general, we do not make an announcement until it is done and honestly sometimes it wasn't even announced then. The changes made were done incrementally partly for that reason. First we moved Discussion on day. Then Graphics. Then we did support and resources last. With the exception of requests which might be a bit odd at first inside of Support, everything was moved logically based on how they fell (support item or resource item). Additionally, the forum description states what is contained in the Gallery forum. To be honest, the bulk of the changes are what you are not seeing. While you do not see it, there are close to 70+ forum sections floating around as a result of both the Support board going back to 2002 and the Resource board prior to the two merging. That is also why no announcement has been made yet. Every change is done incrementally partly because it's not something I want to rush- there are several forums that go by the same name so I have to make sure I am actually moving/deleting the correct one. The overall goal is a more manageable index. The other goal is keeping everything within a particular area. So for instance, the organization of the Resources section, while nearly done, will also include the Tutorial Section moving up a level. Additionally we are looking at other ways to improve the Resource section layout given that it is all under one section now. I understand regarding announcing prior and you do have a point. As mentioned, it's not something that has been needed in the past. In fact if memory serves, even the merge was done with little notice. With this, the sections moved one down within the same overall category. So while I understand the initial confusion, it's something that we didn't think was needed. I will also admit that because I've been doing this at 1am/2am my time so as to have the least amount of traffic, I'm not exactly able to write announcements at that time without making some obvious spelling and grammar mistakes. Regardless, I certainly apologize for any confusion that occurred. Until we are finished and ready for a full announcement, what I will do is continually update everyone in this topic as changes are made. |
