Wow, Star Trek and Star Wars both involve sentient, humanoid aliens... that's must be proof that they exist! An explosion did not create the Earth. The Big Bang was not even an explosion. Get your facts straight, man. The Big Bang makes sense scientifically. But a global flood? Where did all that water come from? Where did all of it go? And actually, a person who believes in God but doesn't accept organized religion is a Deist. |

Well as Vulcan said it has been in whatever many stories in whatever many languages. How can you argue with that? |

Big deal. The majority of the world thought the Earth was flat at one point. Does that make them automatically right? |

Right at one point, these stories have been passed down for ages. |

That's completly different. They didn't have the technology to figure that out. All you need is your eyes to see a flood. |

The notion that the Earth was flat had been passed down for ages as well. Who's to say that the people of the future won't find the idea of a global flood completely ludicrous like we do the notion that the Earth is flat? |

To compare the number of years that the Earth was flat was thought of, to the number years that this story has been passed down is..well not even comparable (bad vocab) |

To be fair, let's start at 5000 BC, when the first civilizations were forming. People decided the Earth wasn't flat at around 1500 AD. That's 6500 years for that notion. Since the idea of a global flood still lasts to today, that's about 7000 years. To be fair, since many people no longer believe in a global flood, we'll subtract 50 years from that. 6950 years. To this day, people have only believed in the flood 450 years more than they've believed that the Earth was flat. Do the calculations, and the notion of a global flood has only lasted about 6% longer than the notion that the Earth is flat... Also, the notion that there was a global flood has only lasted 1.5% longer than the notion in the United States that it is OK to own negroes as property, and only 1% longer than the notion that women shouldn't be allowed to vote. |

But you are assuming that no one believes in a global flood anymore. Obviously all the Christians believe in it, and there are 2.1 billion Christians in the world, the most of any religion (including Atheist). However that would be biased of me to only include them, being that I am an American Christian. However we know that one of those stories of a global flood was interpreted in the Chinese culture. Now obviously we can't say that all Chinese believe this story, but I do believe most Chinese people do since it was written for the Chinese Traditional Religion. Now there are 394 million people who follow the Chinese Traditional Religion, and all those people believe this story since it is a major part of the religion. There is also a story relating to a great flood in the Islamic Religion in which there are 1.3 billion people. So to say that most people no longer believe in a great flood is a bad generalization. |

I'm actually from China, and I can tell you that 90% of the people in China have probably never heard of this story, nor do they care. The "Chinese Traditional Religion" thing is really BS. Most Chinese follow some traditions and not others, and there's definetly no organization behind it. Also, there are thousands of Chinese legends/myths. I haven't even heard of this flood thing, and the majority of people in China probably haven't either. And Islam descended from Judiasm too, so I'm not surprised... I didn't say most people, I said many people. Besides, are you going to make the generalization that all Christians/Jews/Muslims automatically believe in the flood? Many Christians with liberal interpretations of the Bible don't believe that a physical flood ever happened. |

and whose to say that years from now people will find the concept of evolution to be completely ludicirus? everything you are saying could be applied to any scientific theory or concept. |

Okay those people that are Christians/Jews/Muslims and don't believe in the global flood are not even followers of those religions. As a Christian I know that the global flood is a HUGE part of this religion, and if you don't believe it, it would be hard to say you follow Christianity. I can't speak for Jews or Muslims, but I'm sure the explanation is close to mine. But even without the 90% of Chinese people who don't believe the flood story, there is still around 3 billion Christians/Jews/Muslims who do believe it. That is also including the fact that, as you said, there might be a few people in those religions who do not believe the story. I took out 300 million Christians, 200 million Muslims, and 4 million Jews. I also never mentioned the 7 million followers of the Baha'i Faith and the 100 million followers of the African Traditional Religion, both who have stories of a global flood. |

But see, with evolution, nobody is saying that it is definetly true in its current form and cannot be changed in the future to accomodate new data. Science is never about completely proving something - it is about making logical analyses and conclusions using observations and experiments.
107 million is miniscule compared to the 6.5 billion people in the world. Besides, like I said before, you underestimate the power of coincidence. |
