In my civics class, we're currently learning about the law. Well, we got this dictionary-like book that has all kinds of laws and punishments for them. (Or rather, least amount of jailtime and such.)

Anyways, I'm not sure how updated it is, though I could have swore she said 2000, but I found it interesting that it's at least 2 years in prison if you abandon your child before the age of 11.

Now, it also says that incest is I believe 14 years minimum. How terrible is that? You could abandon 6 of your kids and get out of prison before a guy who did the giggity-goo with his sister. Your thoughts?

Most punishments differ between states.
But, yeah, government's forcing morals on people too often these days. Things like gay marriage and incest shouldn't even be legal issues.

Yes, good point.

I mean, who or what people do with their lives as far as sex and such go, should be totally up to them. Well, besides rapists and child molesters - that's a different story.

Like Glitch said, your sex life (hell, let's even throw in abortion) is your business, not Big Brother's.

It is when an baby born from incest has all sorts of genetic defects that I, a tax payer, will have to pay for in medical care.

1. It's a common misconception that children born of incest are deformed. They are not at all. The European royal family was ridden with incest for the past millenium, and their children turned out perfectly fine. Granted, some of the harmful recessive traits came through, like the hemophilia.

2. I hate how everybody uses taxes as an excuse these days. Since when do your taxes go into getting people medical care? I wasn't aware the American government provided universal healthcare.

You need to do some research and see who pays for the medical care of people without the money for it themselves (i.e., medicaid, dentacaid, etc).
And since it seems to be primarily the ignorant who engage in incest, I doubt they have megabucks, as they are probably fry cooks or stock boys at a Costco or Wal-Mart.

I wouldn't use European royalty as a defense of incest.
Take one look at Prince Charles and tell me he came out okay!
Then look at his sons, who had the advatage of fresh genes from their mum Diana....they look normal.

Incest is sickening.
